That and the 'speed king award' sound like things directly to appeal to a new American audience used to catchy labels and phrases like 'fast nine' etc. (Sorry if any fellow F1T American fans are not impressed with that comment. I have tried not to make it in a condescending way!)

Tried?... "American audience used to catchy labels and phrases". There probably aren't that many American viewers in the US that will be watching it live anyway on a Friday morning. Many of them are only watching recaps or recordings. And Liberty doesn't seem to be that involved in this sprint race concept, are they? I don't see this as something intended to spice up the show for Americans.

A lot us (Americans) do the effort to watch at least Qualy and the Race live… I know I do

Certainly, on a normal F1 weekend Quali and Race are on Saturday and Sunday morning. For this sprint race quali, it'd be Friday morning and depending on which part of the US, could be 6am or 9am. At around this time the average person is just waking up or on their way to work. Quali on Saturday was already an entertaining event, so I really only see this sprint weekend as being something to make Friday a little more "engaging". Given the time difference, I doubt this was aimed at "Americans" or fans in the Americas.

Things get interesting if F1 allow to make Engine mapping changes for Sprint race.

Sprint race starts at 11:30am EDT.

That is a more reasonable time for the folks in PST, looks like it being held in the UK pushes it back a bit. These past couple of races were 6am quali in PST.

Why?

If I am not mistaken the sprint is not different from a usual race stint. Little bit more laps but also less weight than a usual first stint. Or the same for a late soft stint (Ves in France for example). I do not see why any setup changes in the car are necessary. The "sprint" is simply (unfortunately?) too long to play games.

The discussion on setup issues this weekend as opened by Ferrari is more into the direction of limited FP and new tires.

How much fuel do they get for sprint race?
I guess that will not play any role...?

The fact that Parc Fermé will already start after FP1 will mean inconvenience for most teams.
Especially when it rains / red flags.

The Sprint Qualifier replaces the normaly exciting Q1, Q2 and Q3 qualification.

You can no longer earn the Pole Position Award as the fastest driver in Q3. Now this will be for the winner in the Sprint Qualifier.

Tires are really hard. No one will want to use the hard it's very slow. Soft and medium are the way to go. Hard tire is going to have massive front graining. Maybe it's fine in Silverstone a little understeer isn't too bad, particularly on corner exit.

Tire wear seems to be around 11 laps for the softs to start falling off. 15 for the medium and 17 for the hard. That means the Sprint race can be completed on any tire, but the pace of the car will be different at a different point of the race, depending on the tire.

Sprint race is around 18 laps?

I think the sprint race is 30 minutes (so maybe 18 laps, can't remember how long an average lap is at Silverstone). I think the format could work, it might need some tweaks to parc ferme rules. I think it places a lot more on the driver to be quick and also to make the tyres last to get the best grid position possible for the race. The current format just leads to predictable races a lot of the time. It's worth trying at least.

A happy coincidence for USians . It's always nice when you realise the race is at a non-standard time and thus falls in to a comfortable time for your particular time zone.
