The FIA should have a stipulation that requires a mill deposited in the FIAs bank if you choose this process. You lose it if you fail in your bid…and it comes out of the cap.

I believe that is indeed the case! There is a non-refundable cost to appeal IIRC. Of course this might not be considered an appeal.

If I’m not wrong, the request for appeal has a non-refundable cost of 6k… Not “a lot” in the big scheme of things for the teams.

So now they can say it's cost them $1,806,000 instead of just $1,806,000, I suppose.
Or alternatively, 186 Gs...

If I read the verdict it sounds very amateurish from RedBull. No new evidence, only a visualisation of already available data and fabricated data which the appeal rules state is dismissible. Next to that I read that nobody within RedBull told Verstappen the actual verdict of the stewards (or even bothered to read it himself), so he was unaware that there was, in the verdict a count of shared blame (in the wording). On top of that the verdict seems to hint to a rant in the petition.

Well, they might add in the costs of Perez' simulator runs of those different lines, and even more, the Albon 22 july Silverstone runs to apparently do the same (and if I read correctly, test sessions mind you, how many do they have of those? But it really should be listed as PR - which helps their cost cap - except then they would admit to this being a PR-show that they forced the stewards to take part in, which isn't something the FIA would take kindly).

The Mercedes just posted tweet (see their team's thread), certainly reads like 'you are lucky you are not yet hauled over the coals publicly by the FIA for bringing the sport into disrepute', if one combines it with the bit of the stewards report about their 'concern' at what Red Bull's letter was alleging, which is hard to read differently as them implying (premeditated?) intent to crash, and only there being no factually new evidence according to the appeal rules from potentially saving them from censure for that.

But I might be biased, probably am.

It was apparently just Albon running an old car at Silverstone on an official filming day - so no limitations on that, but they did rent the track for a day.

Yeah maybe though as long as they follow the pace and settings Pirelli set, maybe the exact line might not be an issue (though it would arguably further invalidate the comparison than not running it with a Merc or Ferrari for the HAM,LEC lines already does?), or it means that the story is a bit overcooked and they didn't actually go to that level, but left it at Perez' simulation? I hope the latter, but not sure I can count on that amount of level-headedness from Red Bull at this point.
