Mercedes W12

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Is it me or are those aero elements in front of the nose cone near the number, more arched upwards on the corner edges? Are those new?

I don't have any pictures to show it, but it looks to me like the sidepod cooling inlets have been modified and are slightly larger. From head-on it looks like the outer upper corner is higher and then slopes down towards the cockpit.

Wouldn't be a shock Hungary is a hot one.

According to Merc, they used their tokens on 'structural changes'.

An alternate (but less likely) interpretation is that they spent their tokens on 'structural changes plus aerodynamic changes'.

Flow-viz was also on the barge board area of Hamilton’s car I think.

As we know depending on ambient temperatures, teams often change the cooling outlets/gills beside the rear of the cockpit, as well as the rear cooling exit, but I don't ever recall seeing changes to the sidepod inlets for this purpose.

That would be a pretty substantial change, if true!

Edit: You don’t think it’s an optical illusion created by the fact that the large side pod deflector element has been split into vertical and horizontal elements right in the area you’re referring to?

No, I think he was just talking about what they were allowed to spend 2 tokens on. Not what they have.
