Can also grow the French fanbase. F1 has been dominated by British, Finnish and German drivers in recent decades. It was 24 years before a Frenchman even won a grand prix before Gasly winning in Monza last year. Great win for Ocon and Alpine.

What a day for Alpine! Unexpected win for Ocon and brilliant performance by Alonso, his blocking of Lewis really made my day, master at work. Really hoped both would get to the podium, but it was not meant to be. Very nice of Ocon to thank Fernando, without spaniard blocking, Lewis would be quickly at the front. Very nice in general to see the team spirit, this should be another boost for all of them. I really wish work on the next year's car will pay dividends, it just has to. Fernando truly deserves a winning car.

Fantastic result for Alpine- well done to them. They have now followed that path of podiums in 2020 an race win in 2021- not the manner in which they’d have liked (pure pace) but nonetheless a huge boost looking forward to 2022.

Ocon was ice cool and Alonso was just epic - really hope they make that good step in PU next year and a good job of the new rules- let’s hope it’s super competitive at the front!

He had dominant tyres, of course. The tyre rule change from 2004 to 2005 outlawing tyre changes totally screwed Ferrari. That helped Alonso immensely. In 2006 he and the Renault were just better than everyone else, especially in the first half of the season. And they had the TMD in the nose that the car was built around and was outlawed in the latter half of 2006, which certainly didn't help Alonso.

But 2005 - 2008 were the years when no one had a dominant car. After the early 2000s that was a refreshing change.

Well, for the tyre situation, Ferrari & Bridgestone got some karma for their secret collaboration. Once other teams found out big B was building them predominantly around the red car characteristics, most of the field went to Michelin (who suddenely had lots of teams to invent and test their tyres on).

Ferrari also had TMD if I'm not mistaken, french team was just better at incorporating it

Alonso is my all time favourite driver. He got screwed at McLaren Act 1, the penalty he got at Hungry for holding Hamilton up should never been called. I don't get the FIA ruling on internal team issues. He should never have left Ferrari. He would have more tittles if he had stayed. On the track he's hard to beat, off the track he makes weird calls.
