The FIA has other information, @Toni Sokolov too.

Toni Sokolov @tonisokolov1011

Very interupted FP2 for the #DutchGP as we've had 2 Red Flag situations that really didn't provide us with a clear picture for Sunday.

It looks like Red Bull is the car to beat with Mercedes being close second, altough without Hamilton.
More details in article later on. #F1

The graphs I posted are from FOM.

Their calculations adjust for estimated fuel loads, PU settings, tire-corrections, etc. The gaps are never accurate. Not the point. The general competitive order is usually fairly accurate, and the methodology improves as the season goes on.

What these graphs tell me are that it’s very close, despite not having much data from Hamilton.

Toni just averages the raw lap times after throwing out the outliers.

I feel like we’re really lacking in data points though due to a shortened FP1 and Lewis going out early in FP2 to make a call on predicted pace. I also really don’t know how much clean running Max had.
Same here. P1 was a non entity with new track long red flag etc, and in P2 Bottas had far more to do than just thrash around trying to set a good time. He was doing the exploratory stuff for both cars and with just one drivers input.

I expect them to start tomorrow well in front of the best today

On a sentimental level I’d love to see US F1 back at Watkins, it’s US F1s historical home.

However its location just can’t support tens of 1000s of travelling fans and 1000s of team personnel. Where would everyone stay within a reasonable travel distance?

NASCAR sells the place out. 95,000 including infield and 39,000 with grandstand seats.

Running the long course buys some more viewing capacity.

Spa only has a 70k person capacity and I believe is similarly situated as Watkins Glen. The Finger Lakes may have more to offer with the wineries and the lakes and all.
Spa is a bit out of the way but still easily accessible from large cities in the UK, France, Germany. It’s an established event and the teams know what they are getting.

For Watkins to happen I suspect Liberty would have to buy the track and massively improve the facilities and promote the race themselves. Sadly Liberty would prefer to race in a Miami superb parking lot. You’d assume an F1 race would be viable in up state NY but then it seems Indycar isn’t.

Racing in a parking lot is disappointing, because we have some great tracks here, but is also very American at the same time.

Aside from COTA and Sebring, most U.S. tracks are either too narrow or too short, or don't have the facilities. Sebring would rattle the cars until they fell apart, and still doesn't have the facilities. Also the French parking lot race was fantastic, and the Miami track has more elevation change than that.

Back to this race, Bottas had to burn 14 laps of fuel and switch to new tires in order to get those 14's, also the fact he didn't do long stints means he had to use more battery power to achieve that kind of lap time. This bodes well for Red Bull considering Verstappen was averaging low 15's on the same set of softs for 10 laps, he would have easily been faster than Bottas had he switched to medium tires after that 12 lap stint.

Zandvoort is but certainly was like that (a couple of years ago). Most tracks that aren’t used for international racing are completely centred around the track itself and a small paddock area, for club or national racing, where nobody really comes to watch. Up to three years ago Zandvoort only had one small sitting area left over from the seventies and a small parking lot, big enough for the boy racers to park their cars.

I don't think RB is in front. Max looked more ragged than the smooth Bottas. I think Merc is sandbagging for sure.

Um, did Verstappen overtake the Aston under red flag conditions during FP2?

Does anyone have onboard footage of his dash at the moment it happens?

I’m wondering if Merc will pass that along to the stewards tomorrow to cause maximum disruption, like RBR did to Hamilton in Austria a while back.

Ant supposedly brought it up on the SkyPad and said the stewards may look into it, if the matter is referred to them.

Yes he did. It might be another situation like Leclerc at Monza where Stewards pretend it never happened.

That highlights a definite issue in F1.

If he unequivocally did it, red flag infringements aren’t handled lightly. It’s up to a team to refer it. Was just wondering if Merc were waiting. If Ant was aware, Merc were aware.

Love those wide kerbs.

But the wall proximity just screams, "Imma fudge you up"

I hope they move the DRS activation line all the way back to that exit kerb, coming out of the final corner tho. Let's see who has the biggest balls 8)

If you haven’t seen an onboard lap of this track, you really owe it to yourself to check one out.

This place is a rollercoaster. The elevation changes are incredible. I actually laughed out loud when I saw the onboard it was so exhilarating. As a driver it must be euphoric. Wow. What a track. The banking is absolutely fantastic. I so hope they go 2 wide on the final corner. That would be epic. So glad they are back at Zanvoort.

Love the old school. The tiny go kart feel is outstanding. Love the gravel traps. You f up, your day is done, son. Love the squished pits, and tree stump short entrance. Yea baby. Let’s do this. This kind of finality and risk and unforgiving F1attitude harkens back to why I started watching this sport 35 years ago. So glad to have that feeling again. It’s about time they put some reasonable 20th century-like risk back into this sport. Love the finality these tracks offer because it up’s the anti at most every corner. Max and Lewis simply cannot afford a dnf and so they must race mistake free and that’s going to be tough this weekend.

The fan support for Max must be really special and inspirational for Max. He’s basically why they are racing here.

Q1 is going to be madness and mayhem. Can’t wait.

Quali 3, Merc and Red Bull and maybe even Ferrari seem so evenly matched it’s going to be an absolute dog fight no matter what. Getting a clean lap will be a bit tricky in every quali.

Red flags are going to happen and they are going to ruin some really good laps. Be prepared to see great laps thrown in the toilet. It’s going to mess up tire strategies because after one attempt, even two, there’s not enough time left in the tires and a new set must be used. I think all these precarious factors are going to mix up the grid nicely. Yet to see if they can pass without taking another guy out to do so....

Ah it will be a Holland Casino with all the crashes and slow recovery of cars on Sunday. Even a Haas can win this.

On F1TV you can watch the onboard footage of Max. It is very clear that he immediately reduces a lot of speed when the red flag is shown. You can also see that he does not overtake anyone on the way to the pits. Anthony Davidson is stirring things up in the hope that Max will get a punishment and the Lewis fans are happy to participate.
