It's pretty clear from the footage that he did nothing wrong, as soon as the red flag was shown he started slowing down. The other car is irrelevant.

Just watched the footage on F1 tv from Max onboard. He is basically alongside Stroll when the red flag panels comes into view. As soon as it’s visible he slows down, radio message comes after he slowes down. And there is a massive speed difference as Max was on a hot lap and Lance on a slow lap. No way in the world could Max slow down and stay behind Lance once he sees that panel, by the time his foot can hit the brake he is passed Lance.
This should not be a penalty.
Looks that way to me also. What I don't understand is how it gets to this point. With the footage we have seen, its not a penalty, the stewards have way more and still need to call a meeting and bring full focus on the stewards and bring arguments amongst both camps.

With kimi leaving, its hard to judge how fast he still is, this is now a HUGE test for Gio and Kubica. If Kubica can beat Gio, thats surely Gio finished.

Aha. Any more freebies for Max and RBR or will this continue all season? Free Spa win, Perez allowed to re-join when the was out of the race in spa and now a stone cold penalty that by definition is a penalty and he gets away with it. disappointing. He had a full 5-6 seconds to react. Disgusting bias IMO.

He gets a warning on his dashboard.
Do they get a tone in the headphones? That would seem sensible.

No idea. The point I was making was that using the trackside boards as a catchall excuse doesn’t work.

#-o
You said he didn’t pass anyone. He clearly did. #-o
I said: " ...he does not overtake anyone on the way to the pits." He didn't do that.
He was in a flying lap and when the rad flag occured, he was alongside Stroll, slowed down but couldn't break fast, that would be very dangerous! No penalty.

That ultimately is the problem.

F1 is interested in replicating the Monaco model everywhere, at the expense of the racing itself.
Better tracks like Monaco and Zandvoort, than tracks like Abu Dhabi or Bahrain. :)

At least Zandvoort is a proper track! Likewise Monaco! Likewise Hungary etc!

Those dreary modern carparks with off camber technical corners are just dull circuits -- I don't care that they are wide and that overtaking is technically possible, that's not the be-all and end-all.

I hate to say this, but when a red flag is shown, everyone is on the way to the pits from that point on. There's no way around it. :P

It would have been daft to penalize him though.
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II
