AFAIK, cockpit lights synch to sensors on light stations, not every marshal’s post has a light station attached (and post 5 in Interlagos doesn’t have any lights) and drivers have to obey flags first and foremost, lights are supplementary signals
Frankly, even if the marshals saw this, I expect their reaction would be:
1) he was past the incident
2) he could clearly see that, and the green flag
3) he was handed the place, he didn't go for an overtake really

and just shrug at it.

I'm honestly not sure why we're hanging on a comment on the video, instead of judging via the video.

You did initially admit yourself that the aforementioned green flag is not actually visible in the video (before your ninja edit :p )

OK, so we have a video of a different incident and the posts have used civil language. I'll let them be. I have already had to deleted some OUTRAGED posts in a couple of other threads.

So someone has found a potential infringement 2 days after the event, the cars are packed up, everyone's gone home. Sporting decisions should take place at the track and as I recall the rules have a time limit on the decision making, something like 30 mins?

Stuff happens all season both good and bad. Some things get picked up by stewards and some don't. Then the people with the most points at the end win the WDC and WCC.

IMHO Any talk of an appeal this is rumour spam until it is confirmed by a reliable source (cooper, saward etc) and will be dealt with accordingly.

Which I edited out because I'm retracting it. I watched the video at 1x, 0.5x and 0.25x speed - and you can definitely make out a waving green flag at the marshall post. It takes quite a few times to pick it out. I suggest a good high contrast display.

Oh for goodness sake! This has been all played out. The stewards and everyone else has said that all was in order. The race is over, the WDC has been won. But that does not seem to satisfy those who have an obvious problem with Vettel. It smacks of pure bigotry.

Mods should bring this witch hunt to a close.

To be fair - the deadline for any appeal of any classification is, I believe - November 30th. That means they have 2.5 days ish to bring any grievances to note - then if we hear nothing by November 31, it's curtains for the results.

If the discussion is not something that interests you, why not just ignore it? If you want the thread closed, why not just never open the thread again? It would have exactly the same effect as locking it on your end, and we can continue our very civil discussion.

Everyone wins.

Is there a rule that we mustn't discuss subjects that are not of interest to yourself or that you do not agree with?

The quality of the video is rubbish and on 720p it's a pixelated mess. But yeah, it's definitely there.

To lift another comment from the video:
Just found the clip on BBC iPlayer: there's clearly a green flag waving at the start of that straight. 1:05:00 into the BBC video you can see the marshal change flags from (static) yellow to waved green, before Vettel reaches the straight.
Not in the UK so I can't verify.

So... I have an interesting take on this even assuming he *did* overtake under yellows...

An incident is any one of the following according to the sporting regulations:
a) Necessitated the suspension of a race under Article 41.
b) Constituted a breach of these Sporting Regulations or the Code.
c) Caused a false start by one or more cars.
d) Caused a collision.
e) Forced a driver off the track.
f) Illegitimately prevented a legitimate overtaking manoeuvre by a driver.
g) Illegitimately impeded another driver during overtaking.
Note, no mention of overtaking under yellow flags. The only mention of yellow flags in the sporting regulations are for two circumstances – 1) when a car has stalled on the grid 2) when the safety car is deployed.

For reference, here's "the code"
http://argent.fia.com/web/fia-public.ns ... v08ANG.pdf

Note, it too does not mention yellow flags...

My reaction to this can only be... :o  . It would appear that the FIA forgot to include rules banning overtaking under yellows!

didn't know where to post this, but here are the BBC end of season credits (they always tend to do a good job of this, i particularly like this one and the 2010 one) :

Did they repeat their 2011 ending credits song again? What is it? Kasabian?
