AlphaTauri AT04

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Some pics of Alpha Tauri floor carried in the pitlane at Suzuka. They are all in on the stepped diffuser. Blimey. Second photo shows the profile of the floor fences and how rounded the tunnel is now compared to the completely flat underfloor tunnel they ran last year.

The underfloor is clearly taking large inspiration from the rb18 which makes sense with what they've been saying recently.

Are those "steps" (yellow line) in the middle part of the floor designed to induce vortices (red lines) at a certain velocity (in excess of 200 kph) to limit the downforce that this floor can generate in order that the car doesn`t porpoise?

If that`s the case how do they know which is the max downforce generated by the floor that the car didn`t porpoise? An additional question is what the floor design should be to get higher if not the highest downforce that the floor can generate?

AT at COTA. Compared the front of the chassis to previous rounds and can't visibly see a difference - not that it isn't changed a lot. Just can't tell

Has the suspension actually changed here or is it the bodywork? It looks like the bodywork has moved downwards, which make it look like a suspension change but I'm not sure it has.

I agree with the idea that the visual comparison is not concrete. The bodywork has changed and the angles are not identical. If I remember correctly the rear suspension changes for the rb19 relative to rb18 are hard to distinguish from this angle and the outboard pickup points and overhead view are the places where differences can be seen.

I believe it has changed though, based on this report. This is Italian media reporting on it about an italy-based team and the outlet has been the most consistently reliable in F1 this season. Can't remember anything they put out being disproven

After Singapore upgrade happened the team said in hindsight it was mostly mechanical components and I was wondering what.. But rear suspension would make sense.

The article also mentions a new floor for Abu Dhabi. If we don't have confirmation or good visual comparisons by then, if the new floor arrives in Abu Dhabi then it lends credence to them having good info from inside the team.
