Kimi qualified on older tyres and didn't improve on fresher tyres which is same as everyone.
He did a slower lap in Q1 on harder tyres which I think is due to the older package he is running.
You don't compare old and newer package in qualifying that's what practice sessions are for.
You can say Kimi is the new No 2 driver and when he notices this I don't think Kimi would be willing to extend his contract or sign a new one.

You may have noticed that Kimi was faster in Q2.

For some reason he struggled in Q3.

Seb improved from 1'26.1" to 1'25.4" from Q2 to Q1, while Raikkonen went from 1'26.0" to 1'26.4".

What I meant was he should have gone out on fresher tyres on the first run as very few people improved their times on second run.

But if they knew this they probably would had gone on fresh tyres on first run.

Ted Kravitz mentioned that Kimi chose to use the old parts.

skyf1 Italy reports that due to changing track condition the team was unable to fully understand if the new parts are working as expected. So they decided to run both and literally flipped a coin to sort out who takes the new package and who the old one.

that's got to be utter bollocks, cause seb was feeling fine with the new parts. but kimi wasn't. so to toss a coin would be stupid.

Kimi declared he made the choice and he was conscious of the extra work required to revert to older specs.

Ferrari obviously accepted, having two drivers running in the same practice with different aerodynamic packages is always useful.

Ferrari SF15-T - revised aero package

In Spain Ferrari have introduced what almost amounts to a B-spec version of their 2015 car...

Image

The updates (previous versions shown inset) were trialed by both drivers in Friday practice, but used only by Vettel for qualifying and the race. The most obvious difference is the more contoured shape to the top of the sidepods (1). Also new is the middle wing with a small fin (2) beside the cockpit. This is now separate from the vertical ‘boomerang’, which is also different in shape, particularly in its lower section (4). Finally here, the turning vanes have become more complex (3), with two vertical slots.

That second fin looks like it's lined up to send a vortex down the new cutout shoulder on the sidepod for some reason.

So the down side seems to be that Ferrari weren't able to put on their package and have it work the way they expected. Vettel alluded to it; when he said the gap to Mercedes had grown, he mentioned it was because Ferrari were 'struggling'; I take this to mean they're unable to understand which pieces work/don't work and why.

But the upside is there's a test right after the race. It was always going to be hard to put on such a big package all in one go; of course you would want everything work just as it did in the tunnel but so many pieces in on go makes it hard to isolate individual performance.

So hopefully the test will help them get to bottom of it. Concern is that this is very reminiscent of previous years where certain parts simply never made it on the car and all that development time was wasted.

It looks to me that new parts need to be, let's say, adapted a little bit because even with such big update package the gap is now even bigger. It really starts to look like more and more that aerodynamic part of the car is the one that needs attention when compared to Mercedes. Looks like the 059-3 engine is just fine.

Any technical reason to why Ferrari suddenly became so slow, compared to Mercedes, on low speed corners?

It seemed they only lacked on the downforce sectors, on previous GPs, while being quite close on long straights and low speed corners sectors.

In Barcelona, Vettel wasn't too far on S1/S2 but was quite a lot on S3. That doesn't bode well for Monaco :|
