The new directive from the FIA means that any engine mapping setting used in qualifying has to now be used for the start of the race – with the first opportunity to change it now only possible at the first pitstop when a computer could in theory be plugged into the car.
That is a very good question. I can understand them wanting to penalize the teams that are going to change this map. As you read in the article it said the computer has to be plugged in. If this is not true than they should just give the car a 5 or 10 second stop, and go. The only thing I can think of is that the data will be transmitted to race control so that there is no doubt about which map they are using (or not using) and it may be necessary to delete the map for the entirety of the race, for whatever that is worth.spacer wrote:Why would one need to pit? The autosport article claims that to change the engine mapping they need to connect a computer to the car.
