At the end of the FP1 many teams were doing some race sim laps ...

So, HAM was on the Bahrein RW spec setting 287km/h in SP2 speed trap in contrast to RUS with 296km/h which was 6km/h slower than VER! These drivers didn`t use DRS at this stage ...



Some interesting times were set by Merc drivers on hard tyres compared to VER soft ones but as always we didn`t know the fuel levels, PU modes and so on ... nonetheless, it seems that here Merc is setting up the car for the hard tyres thus opting for a strategy with fewer stops in the race ...

In the current breed of Pirelli's, we don't know which compound is faster in the race trim! It really makes for a very dirty outcome of reading and comparing these race sim times from free practices. It was the case in Jeddah too.

Ferrari bounces(bouncier car of the day for sure) a lot but still fast.

Red Bull put bigger RWs for FP2, but Ferrari still kills them in S3.

I don`t think you saw HAM yet ... nonetheless in Ferrari`s car porpoising is occurring later and also for a shorter time ...

Mercedes also bounces, but far slower. So it just proves that porpoising may be an issue, but if the car is inherently fast, it can still be at the sharp end.

If Ferrari gets to the bottom of that porpoising I'm betting they'll gain an extra step in speed.

The RB is so weak in the slow-mid speed corner, but yet so fast in straight line... Reminding me 2019 Ferrari at this stage

The Alpine and the McLaren were very close on their qualy simulation, especially Alonso

Sainz seems to have found his feet with the car !
Leclerc is faster than the RB despite Melbourne being his weakest track, good signal for Ferrari.

Such a dip for Ferrari in the 2nd and 3rd peak. Could this be to mitigate porpoising that looked quite bad today? Detuned engine? Or consistent with other weekends? They seem to have a more ‘rounded’ GPS trace peak that redbull for example.

FP2 telemetry, this time with ALO given his 4th, the dips from the Ferrari are gone so it was low engine mode in FP1.

I think ALO was lower fuel given he's so much faster braking, so good stuff on 4th but not sure will be there for quali, although I could be wrong.

laps from LEC and VER on similar age tyres, and overall the cars look a lot closer in corners here, so whatever setup problems VER had, RedBull must have solved them well.
with tyres so old it's hard to make too much out of the laps though, as tyre deg starts to play a role here and I see a lot of differences to LEC's slower laps (where Ferrari used to hold down the throttle and here it isn't for example).

The last 3 corners is where Ferrari wins the lap.

Really hard to say between VER and LEC, but given tyre life difference I think FER may have a slight edge for now, like a couple tenths.

Seems a bit flattering for RUS to post this time at the end of the race sim at the end of FP2 on the same medium used tyre, but VER previously on lap 6 did a 1.23.101 and on lap 5 his fastest race sim lap: 1.20.920 after all ... and as usual we don't know the fuel levels, PU modes and the bla, bla stuff ...

Also, it is worth mentioning for the record, RUS did 15 laps on that set of the medium used tyres and VER just 12 laps ...

RUS said on Sky Sports F1 interview after FP2 that hear the soft tyre is working faster as the laps are going on and lasting longer apparently, something that baffles all the drivers it seems ...
