Renault R31

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Anyone notice the mirrors seem to be winglets with a mirror mounted on them, a la FIndia and Ferrari in 2010? Rather than having traditional "mounts" for the mirrors?

They are not really new. The R30 witch was presented in Valencia had similar ones. And they were tested in the windtunnel in 2010 but never raced.

How do you know?

More pictures of R31 please...
Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.

remember how the F10 had winglets next to its cockpit, then just slapped mirrors on them in Catalunya? I'm saying that's what Renault did. At the part where the support connects to the cockpit, not where the mirror connects to the support.

Are we sure we're looking at images of the NEW Renault car. I would have thought that they'd have resprayed or at least photoshopped their images to go with the new black and gold paint job, or is the new livery merely a tool to get column inches RE the dispute over the Lotus name?

It IS possible. We'll see soon. Probably the yellow model isn't a production car iteration.

The yellow is probably the standard colour they use in the tunnel tests.

notice that this car is yellow as well, just painted silver:

Spray a wind tunnel model with a livery? That's a lot of time and money for no gain at all.

Agreed, but these guys receive literally millions in sponsorship from people who are desperate to have their products plastered all over these machines. Granted, only the hardcore fans will even look at wind tunnel models, but that's still got to be an audience of thousands, so it's not QUITE no gain at all, but I agree that it might be close!
