The gap between Vettel and Hamilton is dued to Vettel putting in a second timed lap with more heat into the tyres. Seems that every driver struggled to improve their Soft run in their first run with the supersoft. Vettel, as most, went about 0.3s faster the first lap, then again 0.3s second time around. However, I think that Vettel still will be on pole, with Hamilton perhaps 0.2s behind.

I'd have expected anyone hot in S3 to be cold in S1.

DDRS, gives downforce when you want it(S3), & drag reduction down the straights(S1), can you imagine if they link it to both the front wing and the beam wing?

I know what you mean, but I'm not so sure. In the past the Red Bulls have always geared their 7th gear to the DRS-limited top speed rather than to DRS-opened top speed. It will only help a tiny smidgen in top speed, and instead will help more under acceleration.

Unless Red Bull have changed setup philosophy to go for more quali pace and sacrifice race pace I assume they're doing the same now - which would mean the DDRS would only help in acceleration, not in top speed.

However we are talking tenths of a second here - Vettel was probably only 2 blinks of an eye quicker than Hamilton - so the 2/3 tenths could be due to DDRS.

It looks like Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari is the order. So if there are no technical problems and no mistakes Vettel should be able to take the pole. Vettel 1.36, Hamilton 9.6, Alonso 44 are the odds now for pole. The only worry is Webber's engine problem, what ever it was in FP3. Please no more Renault problems for Red Bull.

About Webber's engine problem
Christian Horner: "There was a data issue with the engine management on Webber's car that basically didn't allow the injectors to function properly, and wouldn't let the engine fire up... there was no mechanical or electrical issue with the engine. It was just a matter of resending the codes to the engine. Unfortunately, it couldn't be rectified in the session, we couldn't do it in time.

Thanks for that info. Sky Germany did not tell us yet what it was.

I thinks its an agressive gearing on the Lotus for this weekend the top speed with DRS is only 311kmph . :o

Good start for Vettel taking P1 with .4s in front of Button and Webber.

Alonso and Hamilton! :wtf:

What on earth is going on!?

Good showing by the two STRs. Looks like they'll maybe repeat last year's pattern of coming good in the flyaway season?

Is it due to the track condition or something else has caused it?
