McLaren signaled their intention to appeal. http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/70402

I think this means that the issue will be resolved at a hearing of FIA's International Court of Appeal.

To all those that support this decision it certainly sounds like you're in the minority in the paddock and there's certainly one informed commentator that disagrees with you: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/7603144.stm

Well said by David Croft, I think he's said exactly what needed to be said there, hopefully plenty of people at the FIA will have listened and started thinking...

Everyone will be keeping two lots of championship totals now, one with the penalty and one without  Hopefully Max will be smart and keep his nose out of this one, he'll get burned straight away with his lack of credibility since his sex scandal.

Heikki's race,

Poor start, swamped and squeezed by the midfield...ended up 13th after the first couple of corners.

Then later, when going for 6th (absolutely stormed up from 13th) he cocked it all up and tripped up on Webber (indecisive overtake attempt at the bus-stop). He was given a drive through for that...and never properly recovered, certainly not into the points..

I think he was actually running 7th when he retired, I believe on the last lap.

Allegations of favouritism, extra charges/licence fees, erratic methods for fines, inconsistent race rulings, erratic decisions on tech rulings, Max with orgy-gate. IMO the FIA is no longer a competent independent governing body. Get the feeling we are heading towards split race affiliations again - concurrent and conflicting.

I do not think that this is a Mosley issue. Well in the end if the FIA employes bad stewards the buck stops at his desk. And he failed to keep Tony Scott-Andrews in office who also made some akward calls but showed independance and some consistency. I believe the FIA has to get ASAP back to a permanent chief steward or they will see more of such rubbish decisions. Bernie should be interested to keep the image of F1 as a sport intact. This is much more serious than a screw with a bit of whipping in a privat flat by an FIA president. The two men who control F1 need to move on this, set a quick date for the appeal court and make the rules absolutely clear on cutting chicanes and gaining advantage. Hopefully the appeal court will trash the stewarts ruling within the month.
Formula One's fundamental ethos is about success coming to those with the most ingenious engineering and best .............................. organization, not to those with the biggest budget. (Dave Richards)

I agree, if they have any sense then they will move for a very quick appeal - it must be before Singapore in three weeks time. Otherwise this is going to hang over the results of GP after GP.

They should also aim to make an announcement on appointing a permanent panel of stewards within the same timeframe.

If with all their money and power they can't make that happen, then there really is no hope.

Interestingly, I think McLaren should be able to take the race director, Charlie Whitings advice that the move made to allow Kimi back past before lining him up for the pass, as an official ruling. Surely? .. This should be a clear piece of evidence to argue why this ruling cannot stand.

Last one came across a bit wrong. For all the talk of maintaining spirit, integrity and sport of the series, all this is undermined by a ruling body with very contradictory actions and perceived values. Bit like our politicians wondering why we don't trust them any more...
