RacingManiac wrote:G loading is not the same, but to ride a bike fast is definitely a very physical exercise, as the rider have to physically affect the weight transfer on a 400lb bike under all manners of condition to get the best out of the tire and the bike. You don't get to be a fat guy to race a bike properly, where as you can be considerably out of shape to drive a race car, albeit not at the level of professional.
It's totally different if you want to go really, really quickly - the muscles you need to move yourself over a bike in transition are not the same as those you need to hold your neck upright over race distance in an F1 car! Bikes pull nowhere near the same amount of G.

Don't get me wrong - I'm a fan and to see the 'Schumi jump' on the top step of the podium again would be awesome! And like everyone else having seen MS race - and also the current crop of drivers - we all know he's in with a chance.

I'm under no illusions why he's here though.

Schumacher has a mathematical chance of winning the WDC.

Take that for what it is, a mere factoid, but still true.

yes, and I am sure Piquet is using that argument to try and keep his seat on the grid too.

Hilarious =D>

On the one hand I wish Michael to just come out, beat everybody, show them why he's seven-time world champ, and shut the critics up. However I am also being realistic... I don't think he would be off the pace, but with F60's competitiveness I don't want to expect too much of a show from him.

Guess I'll just keep my eyes open.

Let's keep our expectation quite low. It does not matter whether Schumi puts up an average performance. After all, we may not get to see Schumi racing Ferrari ever again. The main thing is to see Schumi is back in business!

Schumi is driving a F2007 at Mugello right now, the car is property of a (rich) enthusiast: what if he crash it?

That's interesting - probably he owns a couple of cars. There's no way to prevent him from trying one on track privately?

The car is from F1 Clienti, a company that works with Ferrari and has a lot of their old cars...

Surely Ferrari have their own older cars.

Why isnt he just driving an F2008?

Clienti is just a program for Ferrari to help their clients who bought the old cars to run them....I'd imagine why he is not in anything newer because they haven't sell it yet...With this I think they could go around the rule of the raceteam(who is on break) not doing anything during the mandatory break....this is just so that "Ferrari" is not doing the running...

SZ, obviously I know the muscle you would've developed for the bike racing would be different from F1, but there are 2 sides to this, you need to have enough physical fitness and stamina to sustain a race, which is where racing a bike will help, it helps condition you physically to exerting yourself over a period, which is why they still jog and ride bicycle. But he would've augmented that, during this period knowing to be back in a car, with physical training routine to build those "car racing muscle", and now also, driving F1 cars at speed, despite being older cars...

The impact now could be more pronounced then....

IMO this should set a precedence for not only this situation, but also in the case for the Jaime A. type of condition. But at the same time this could be a bad precedence...
