Mugello test over, Schumacher satisfied with own performance
Michael Schumacer's first test in preperation for the European GP is already over, with the German having completed 67 laps in an F2007 shod with GP2 specification slick tyres. And although the test bares little in comparison to a current F60, Schumacher said he was happy that he put down consistent lap times throughout the session.
Speaking from the Mugello circuit in central Italy, Schumacher said, "It's a great thing getting back on the track with an F1 car even if this was a car from 2007 from the F1 Clienti department with slicks usually used in GP2 and obviously there is no real point of reference. After a couple of laps I was able to drive costant lap times and I'm happy with the performance."
His best time of the day was a 1:23.736, two tenths quicker than Felipe Massa's time back in January with an F60.
"Now we've got to see how my body and the muscles respond in the next days," he added.
Schumacher also explained on his own website how he managed to get a hold of an F2007, “I contacted some of the guys from F1 Clienti if they could give me a car. Although those cars are not current or last year's ones, I simply like to drive as much as possible, so this is a good option."
