wowww nice pics 747!
So there's more than aluminum honeycomb in a f1 tub
hmmm what else is in there
wait, this might go off topic
Thanks for the pics!
There is a article about scale race cars in racecar engineerings november issue.
I haven't read it yet but it looks good.

...it just feels better to read from real paper than from the screen
cool, thanks for that

Regarding that racecar engineering article:
I read that article now and I am not impressed.
There is nothing special in it or it lacks a good picture for explanation.
It talks a bit about scale effect but still nothing special.

yeah, every manufacturer uses normal ball/plain bearings.
I assume they use ballbearings everywhere because of the low costs.
The competition car manufacturers make max 500 kits a year...

And maybe they don't know about the excistence of angular contact bearings, nor roller bearings.
Even the biggest R/C competition nitro engine manufacturer doesn't know how to test engines! :wtf:

I would guess this has to do with the fact that no one makes angular contact bearings that small and the tiny loads RC cars see on the bearings done necessitate the need for them. Also to torque the angular contact bearings to spec would add more drag than a strait ball bearing.

If you follow the link you see that they guy replaced the plain bearings with ball bearings and could reduce friction by this. Its funny that the manufacturer made the hole for the plain bearing exactly on the size of a ball bearing. I guess they do it to sell the bearings seperate as tunig kits for much money.
Of course the bearings are oversized for the small forces.

Nah mep, I don't think so, typically the outer dimensions of most kind of bearings, plains, ball, angular-balls, or different kinds of conical or cylindrical rollerbearings are ISO-standardized.

When it comes to "miniature bearings", the big dogs like SKF or FAG/Schaeffler don't really bother much, but NMB and RMB does, check them out;

ahhh sorry; haven't replied in so long
there you go again with that pic 747,hehe thanks mann

wrcsti, good find. I came across his site some time ago(should've probably posted it here right?), and emailed him about my project. He was responsive, and even offered to help. It was nice

Very nice what this man is doing. =D>
Notice how his cars improved, this shows that such a great car does not fell of the sky and requires a lot of different skills.
If you are in contact with him you can try to get him to this forum.
There are a couple of things we could ask him.
For example I noticed these super small dampers he is using. I expect them to be self-made as I don't think you can so small ones on free market.
I also wonder if he is using a silencer for the engine. It seems not because they usually demand a lot of space.

have you considered using rapid prototyping in plastic / abs rather than trying to mould it. This is lightweight and pretty strong especially if you coat it in varnish to seal the layers up.

I do not get your problem with the mold process .
If you look at the link above it is rather obvious that a mold can be easily constructed and if the guy would have asked a modelmaker before doing it ..it would have even been more straightforward.
Covering something with laminate is not straightforward it is a mess ..and it end creating a lot of work to arrivea t something resembling a finish .stay away from
something like this.Make a plan how to build it then start using up material.Stick with methods you have tools for ,otherwise you have to compromise or outsource expensively.
My engineering hero was the late Helmuth Fath, maybe the old guys here happen to remember him ...that guy had not much more than a lathe ,a WIG welder and an engine Dyno but he did exceptional things.
you have to adhere to some principles and then just do it .RP is a buzzword ...and I´m quite fed up with it really. In my company the guys all seem to believe the world is only turning because of FEM,CFD and RP ..be it SLS or whatever...sometimes a few minutes spent on using your brain will take you a lot further than that.My 2 cents.
I would not go as far as calling it useless ,but a file a saw and some brain will be more or less all that is needed to build a master for a 1st class tub from wich you can have a mould enabling you to build a cf tub ...hey even anderson came as far than that.
