That's why teams spend so much, they wind-tunnel test everything, even the damn pitstop lights. Or I guess it has to 'look' fast so that it fits in with everything else in the sport.

I was surprised by Glocks' position in FP2, but then I immediately understood that they must put on a show as it's their home circuit. Bravo, bravo...

Im disappointed in the BMWs :(
Always down in the rear in the training...

I hope for a dry race though, when it rains in Fuji, it pours.
And, this year, if it rains in a grand prix, its torrential.

If Hamilton wins here, no matter where Massa finishes, he could allow himself to finish behind both Ferrari's in both China and Brazil and still win the championship.

Would you care to enlighten me on this one please? :D And what are the safe positions should Hamilton finish for the 3 races to secure the championship? And also what positions should massa finish to hand Hamilton the win? Did I make sense? Sorry :)
Like Alonso, Kubica makes no secret of his desire to see Ferrari's Felipe Massa beat McLaren's Lewis Hamilton to the 2008 crown.

Asked who he thinks will ultimately lift the trophy, he answers: "My head says Hamilton, but my heart says Felipe."
Kubica, whose rivalry with Hamilton dates back to their karting days, is critical of the British championship leader's on-track style.

"There are two approaches," he said. "Either you drive hard but fair, or you are overconfident and too aggressive."

Kubica said Hamilton's racing against Timo Glock and Alonso at Monza was "too much and dangerous".
Why is Kubica being so critical about Hamilton all of a suddden? They're friends right? Almost everyone wants Hamilton to lose. I feel for the guy.

Read your own quote ;)
Kubica is yet another driver who does not like Hamilton's driving style. But there is already a thread about that.

Im disappointed in the BMW team. They should know better than to try these silly tactics, but then again, thats experience for you. Something they lack.

Another good run from Alonso.

Looks like things backfired for Massa...

I think that Ferrari short fueled Kimi in a bid to get him ahead of Lewis and slow him up enouph to let a heavier Massa to keep up. But with Lewis out front, I think he will pull away from kimi with no problems....

Should be a good race if Kimi comes alive. I hope it stays dry.

Will be very interesting to see everyone's fuel levels. Especially these guys:

3 H. Kovalainen McLaren 1:18.821
4 F. Alonso Renault 1:18.852
5 F. Massa Ferrari 1:18.874

Their times are all so close.

Actually Piquet didn't claim that, his Renault team just misunderstood him, so they made an inquiry to the stewards when there was in fact nothing to investigate. Source: http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/n ... 2707.shtml

If Hamilton wins tomorrow with Massa second, he will lead the championship by 9 points with two races to go, so then he can afford to finish behind both Ferraris in the final two races and still be world champion (as long as there are no other drivers between him and the Ferraris).

Or to put it in another way: Hamilton is sure to win the championship if he gets one win and two third place finishes in the last three events.

I don't think that's quite true. Massa had problems on both his runs, the first he was too gentle on his out lap and so lost time in the first sector - the second run he was way too hard on the outlap, including setting the fastest time of anyone in sector 3, and they were already giving up by the end of his qualifying lap. It looks like a simple case of having a slight problem on his first qualifying run and then over compensating.

I agree though that Kimi is light, hence being disappointed with second. So I think that the more likely story is that Massa and Hamilton are on roughly the same strategy, within a couple of laps of each other, and that Kimi is a bit lighter in an attempt by Ferrari to bring him into play. They said they wanted a 1 - 2 finish, and given Kimi's Q2 problems, and Q3 problems in general, the only guaranteed way to bring him into the mix is to fuel him light.

Japanese GP - Saturday - Team Quotes
Sebastien Bourdais (10th, 1:20.167): "It was a good qualifying and I'm happy to be close to Sebastian on a track with a lot of corner entries on the brakes which is where I usually struggle with the rear end of the car, so I had to hold back a bit. I think the car has improved a bit after the team found a couple of things on the aero side which has helped. I think we are in good shape for the race."
