Back in Montreal in 1993, I picked Kings to go all the way in our office-pool (with Tomas Sandström and Wayne Gretzky as top scorers), much to the poorly-cloaked amusement of my confreres.
Ouch, that still hurts. The Kings faced the Leafs to advance to the finals, and it was very painful to see the end of that series. Toronto fans still lament that lost opportunity.

Last night the Swedes definitely had an impact. Mats Sundin set up the first goal with a wicked cross-ice pass. And the Sedin brothers made sure the Hawks had a very difficult time. Here's a recap from TSN. http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=277110

For anyone interested, CBC sports carries a stream of the games they cover. It's at http://www.cbc.ca/sports/

I recall Canadiens losing the first two against the Nordiques in the first round, why everyone was sooo surprised to see them win, without Mats Näslund though. He had his final glory later on in the 1994 Olympics however.

Remember that one DK, when we still cherish Forsberg's penalty goal against the hapless Corey Hirsch?

Poor guy was made immortal for that one on a Swedish stamp by the way.

The 1994 Olympics ... he scored the winning goal in a shootout for the goal with "The Paralyser". What can I say, it was amazing. Sadly, Hirsch never got over that.

And now for the final punchline, the Swedish post had to erase Hirsch's name and number from the original issue when Hirsch asked for 100 kCAD in compensation for the embarrassment. #-o

I never knew that. The info I had been fed indicated Hirsch just refused to allow his likeness on the stamp. I guess our media didn't want to sully the reputation of a Canadian hockey player.

Never mind, could be an urban-legend for all that I know.

By the way DK, I got this funny PM from one of our Asian friends saying "Old farts must not pollute web-site with pirvate anectdote on strange sport!"

Best regards. I guess this explains why I'm not at my post!
