The problem with Red Bull doing well here is that there aren't many corners where they can go fast enough to take advantage of their downforce except for the last two turns.

Hello everyone!
Can't wait for Singapore GP, it is a great spectacle, totally unique.

As for predictions, I think RBR will be strong, the team to beat, and should get Pole.
Ferrari will be strong as well; As has been said earlier in this thread, one should remember that they were looking very quick at both, Monaco and Valencia, they just had rotten luck. Thay are in great form at the moment and also have an upgreaded package for the race, and should challenge RBR in the race, if not in qualifying.
McLaren will struggle a bit here, as most are expecting, will maybe split the Red cars.
But Kubica & Renault will be the dark horse for the race, won't be surprised to see him get a podium finish.

I would also say that, WhiteBlue is correct in his assessment. We will probably see some crashes and retirements, if the SC comes in, anything can happen.

I have a friend who will be there and I am insanely jealous : He isn't an F1 fan at all, but he has a high powered job in a large multinational and he is being sent there on an unrelated expenses-paid business trip for the next 3 weeks ... he is staying in a trackside luxury hotel, which a little research revealed to be the same one that many of the F1 top brass will be staying in.

He told me this on Saturday and when I mentioned the race he immediately bought day tickets for the paddock from his mobile, just to annoy me.

If he doesn't bring me back a good souvenir then I might be tempted to break his legs!

The glare on the track would make things tricky. I'm not a fan of night or twilight races - they're too gimicky. Maybe a bit of rain will bring this home and the night races will stop.

IMO red flag immediately.
Note that the rain would probably be very heavy as it is tropic.
It would be extremely dangerous to try continue the race.

Late September is already out of the monsoon season. The rain falls generally in the afternoon and not at night. The light system was designed to give minimum problems with wet surfaces. I see the safety risks from night rain as relatively small and not greater than at Monaco. Perhaps someone remembers Monza 2008. They had to stop practice there by day. These things happen. F1 deals with it.

Better check the typical climate again before ruling out rain. September seems to be one of the wetter months.

The safety risks for a night race if it rains are pretty high and a damn sight more than Monaco. 1 reason - light glare. Monza 2008 is not a fair comparision as was not lit by floodlights. [-X

Case in point: Qatar MotoGP 2009. Amazingly, it rained - in the desert! The race was cancelled as it was not possible to race under floodlights in the wet.

The lights at these tracks are a good bit brighter than street lights and you'll have seen the glare of the road when driving in heavy rain at night. Now image there are a lot more and brighter lights, and you are basically sitting on the ground with concrete walls immediately to either side. Not exactly safe no matter how much misplaced bravado you apply.

I'm not ruling out rain but it is known to happen mainly in the AFTERNOON and not by night. Mosoon is focussed on the early part of the month and is much less likely towards the end when the race will take place. Finally the light system was tested for wet streets at nights before the GP in 2008 and was given green light. If it should rain too much against expectations they will simply delay.

The track snakes along over three miles through downtown Singapore, and needs to be lit up enough to provide sufficient visibility for the drivers, spectators and television cameras, all the while minimizing glare off potentially wet surfaces. To execute the illumination, the organizers turned to Italian lighting specialists Valerio Maioli SpA, who worked up a custom lighting system just for the Singapore Grand Prix.

The system devised for the event will consist of some 1600 lighting projectors, hanging in clusters 10 meters above the surface on 240 steel pilings placed 32 meters apart from each other around the circuit and connected by over 100,000 meters of cable.

Hello everyone!
I think WhiteBlue is right. In these areas rain is common in the late afternoon, not so much in the evening; But you have to remember that this is the tropical region, rainfall here is hardly seasonal, it can come anytime, it may be torrential or just a drizzle.

What if there is rain just prior to the race, we will still have a wet track!!
