stress increase due to rpm increase goes up by 1.08x1.08 = 1.166..

so you have an approximate 16.6% increase in stress due to rpms at the same load.

So the net effect AT THE SAME ENGINE LOAD is an increase in 8.6% stress on the parts.
The problem with that reasoning is that only applies out of corners. Once you are on a straight, you don't apply a certain torque, but all you can. Thus, the 16% stress due to extra revs would only apply out of the corners, when you are traction-limited.
I am not amazed by F1 cars in Monaco. I want to see them driving in the A8 highway: Variable radius corners, negative banking, and extreme narrowings that Tilke has never dreamed off. Oh, yes, and "beautiful" weather tops it all.

What about the exhaust fed undertray on the McLaren and Red Bull? Does the change in altitude have any real effect on its performance?

Formula1.com :

"Running at altitude costs an F1 engine around eight percent of its power,” confirms Remi Taffin, Renault’s head of engine track operations. “Despite losing this power, the altitude actually has a positive impact on the engine because the moving parts suffer less. There is less air entering the engine, which means less pressure and less stress on the pistons, conrods, crankshaft and every moving part."

That seems to be the end of engine stress debate for me. I was thinking too, that the high altitude track is more stress for the engine, but obviously I was wrong, and some others too. :(

I was thinking the same thing. I think we should call around and see if the old dear is ok.

This race could be really exciting. We could see the championship blown wide open and all 5 stay in the hunt or the opposite.

I really feel though it will be Alonso, Webber and Hamilton going into the last race.

Is this a fact, or speculation? If fact, any clues what for?

I too thought that the member in question was conspicuous by his absence.

Today a Brazilian prosecutor said that Felipe Masssa can be arrested if he lets Alonso pass him in purpose. This is because Brazil has a new law this year that puts in jail for up to 6 (six) years sportmen or organizations that interfere with the results.

Hahahahaha. That is actually very funny. I'd almost do it just to see what happened.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Alonso, because the Red Bulls can cover the result here I'm sure. Massa will be extremely motivated to make something happen here and I think he'll have a very quiet chuckle if there's more controversy.

I want to see if go from bone dry to soaking wet over the course of one lap, that always makes it exciting and then its a complete lottery as to who can pit first.

Mark has never ever been out-qualified by a team mate in Brazil so I think he has a damned good shot at winning pole. 8)
