Ferrari F2012

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

YES! All hope is not lost, very keen to see how the new sidepods turn out, especially the new cooling arrangement.

Could they be sandbagging their performance, only to come out of the box like a rocket and psychologically crush their opponents?

Mercedes has arrived in Melbourne, you can find Ferrari' shipment number if you have a DHL account and flight number ;)

Lets pump some positive energy we are the Tiffosi, we are one, we are loyal til the end.

New sidepods? sounds sexy.

Oh heck yes. If Alonso has a car that's competitive, look out. [-o< :D

Are you joking or do you think RBR are concerned for Ferrari? The rumor was that RBR were worried that Ferrari are going to be very competitive this season. They probably wish for their rival's factory to burn down.

If that was the goal it would make more sense to run a really inefficient rear wing and get some usable data on their real exhaust system.

Yea apparently they were after a stint. But it´s the temps vs pressures that is very strange.

In order for the pressures to stay that high, but temps that low, they must have run an incredible amount of pressure in the tires.
Probably more then twice the recommended pressures which just does not make any sense.

temps go down and pressures go down after a stint. Here it seems pressures never went down despite temps almost was cut down in half.

To even get those numbers from a tire at the same time is pretty hard i think.

The only logical reason why they did that is that they either:

1. Very confident with the car they decide to simulate high tyre pressures in order to test some form of suspension adjustment system? (i know the torque version was banned but they never said Chemical fluid suspension systems are illegal) thats a wild and horrible theory.

2. Sandbagging the car beyond belief knowing they have the package from the first race?

3. Ferrari running in circles..

Its late otherwise i would have another more reasonable theory.

i am joking, cause it is funny to me that people here from being disappointed with ferrari five days ago are sure now that ferrari is team to beat. i am alonso fan , but i am sure that ferrari is going to struggle first few races. they made new car and to make it win from the first race isn't easy with this set of test rules. i am being realistic.

People are not sure that Ferrari is the team to beat. But they simply more optimistic and confident in their thinking.

Ferrari may struggle in the fly away races, but what matters is by what margin.

The first one i think is most unlikely since it was for all four tires.

Second one is a possibility but if true then they all should recieve and Oscar at Oz.

3. I don´t want to think Ferrari, the oldest F1 team on the grid don´t even know how to use F1 tires properly but it´s starting to look like Ferrari have absolutely no idea on how to build an F1 car anymore.
It´s like they are lost in the fog but with billions to spend.

I really hope it´s 2. though, that would be a fantastic start to the season.

Maybe we have a tire specialist here that could explain these anomalies with the temps and pressures.

4 testing how much blowing on tyres warm them or

5 if it's true that the first exhaust system configuration heat too much rear tyres testing if an high pressure setup can compensate

6. They use their own units for temps and pressure...

4. That does not explain the high pressures while the temps are super-low.

5. If the exhaust heats up the tires too much it means they will heat up the tire no matter what the pressures are.

Could be, but seems over complicated to calculate everytime you check the tires.

If you're used to work in a particular system for a bit of time, well you get used to it...
