Renault F1 R.S. 19

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

I too would like to know why Hulkenberg stopped yesterday during the test.
Indeed, but I have a gut feeling, that we will never know.
Especially if it was caused by the PU.

Apparently it was the front left suspension that collapsed. A few little niggles that need to be sorted but I was happy with the nice little package upgrades to the nose, barge boards and rear wing. The airbox / engine cover area is still fat as far as I am concerned but the PU looks like a nice leap forward.

That roll hoop will remain fat and relatively heavy... unless they use their newly purchased additive manufacturing tools and replace the coolers located there with smaller and lighter 3d printed ones :P
But regarding the fatness of the roll hoop; it has no big negative effect on the aero according to the team, in contrary it helps them tighten the sidepods... Its only drawback according to Bob Bell is that it rases the CoG a bit, but it's worth the pain according to him (because of the net aero gains it brings as said above).

Just a reminder that the Renault has additional S-duct inlets; the 2 or 4 NACA inlets at the very front of the nose since 2018. (AFAIK STR too had these in the past) :P
And the lower letter-box inlet channeled air for the s-duct top exit and through the monocoque for cooling

Regarding the 2019 changes; the top rear wishbones look higher to me and the rear crash structure looks straighter and relatively higher. Its S shape looks less pronounced... So I'm going to speculate and say that the rear end the gearbox has been raised to free the way to the diffuser better :p

Here both cars in the same turn, and the RS.18 is more under load, but still the new top whishbones are less steeply / \ shaped IMO

Just a note, the top 4 photos are from the RS18 and not this years RS19. You can tell by the curved elements on the outside of the front wing and the 3 underside strakes. Are the bottom 2 photos from this year?

All pictures are from 2018 and I forgot to write "since 2018" in the message #-o "Just a reminder that the Renault has additional S-duct inlets; the 2 or 4 NACA inlets at the very front of the nose since 2018."

There are little winglets rear of the Halo on the side of the engine cover. Not sure if this has been spotted already.
Look between the mirror and the halo

Page 9 and 10
What are the possible goals of a team when they raise the rear top whishbones like this?
You have 1 hour.
