Race sims are indeed close between top teams.

Sai v Ham on single lap however is closer than it should for mainly 2 reasons:

1. Sai went wide in T15, very easy to see.
2. Judging by rpm and gear tracks: Ham is running higher mode engine. Easy to see when both cars are on 8th gear. But also Ham is shifting up earlier than the car difference would say.

As for the others... Nobody had very clean laps actually, Lec lifted plenty through his lap, Ver made errors in the first couple of corners and didn't really push on final straight and so on.

FP2 quali sim wasn't good quality overall, race sim more representative instead.

I had a feeling Merc would have turned it up a little bit more given it being Silverstone. Wouldnt be surprised if they ran it a little 'more' than normal given they have 2 British drivers infront of a home crowd.

I imagine there will be a few tenths to come off those times from the likes of Red Bull and Ferrari (if they risk turning it up).

Is it a similar scenario for Norris too? Bit higher engine mode?

This is norris v ver v sai. Maybe Norris ran lighter, looking at acceleration out of first corners in s1, but don't see a higher engine mode from rpms.

Mercedes has shorter gear ratios than Ferrari and RB, though.

They still ahift way earlier than in previous quali laps and gear ratios don't affect 8th gear.

Not much point 'turning it up' to get closer to those in front or further from those behind. Merc are in the no-mans land in between.
If they thought they could fight with the other two, or needed to ensure they were not 'caught from behind', they might risk it, but as things stand I see their best option is to reliably make the finish and pick up lost places.
Same really for Norris unless the Alpines look too close
When arguing with a fool, be sure the other person is not doing the same thing.

True. I think, personally, theres a bit of a expectation this weekend for them infront of a home crowd. Saying that though, there has been on a couple occasions they have been high up in FP and come quali that order has shuffled itself back round putting merc in the 3rd team place.

Should be a interesting practice tomorrow, given the Met office weather app is showing rain from 1pm onwards UK time, so could be another Canada repeat

Mercedes bringing 3 floors surely busted their budget cap by now.
Yeah, they broke the rules. Busted.

Live rainfall radar (with option to tab back in time) here:
https://www.netweather.tv/live-weather/radar

Way we had the british weather up in north east has been short hard showers in isolated cells.

Looking at the band of rain tracking up from devon/cornwall, id expect some rain today on track
