I believe the lap that Hamilton passed Rosberg was aborted by him. He then tried again in the next lap which is what Rosberg was initially aiming for; to be the last to the chequered flag. Considering that the track was improving all the time, I find it strange that the Mercs didn't improve.

Vettel unlucky not to get another shot at the pole. Could have left the pits early or started the lap early. Missed out the flag by seconds.

Alonso(and Schumacher) showed in 2012 that they are the absolute class of the field on wet track.

Alonso put a dog of a car on pole in a wet Silverstone and Hockenheim, while Schumacher was 3th and 4th in both(outqualifying Mclarens, Red Bull(s), Lotuses) while Rosberg was 13th on Silverstone and last in Hockenheim's Q2(17th).

However, Vettel is not that far off. His results on wet are most of the time very impressive and these last two Malaysian Q3's just highlight that.

Hamilton would come on a, somewhat distant, third tier imho

Rosberg is overthinking as usual and tripping up himself. He also does this in his cringe worthy interviews.

It nearly did though, if you consider that Hamilton was the only one not to improve on his final run... What happened on his last lap? Was it traffic? The bbc cut the broadcast short, so did RTL....

Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

I sort of both like and dislike you, hahahahaha... i don't share your hate for Lotus (obviously)... but I do agree with you that Räikkönen is largely overrated as driver (and HUGELY overrated as person).

Did he acquire this wet weather skill after 2007 or prior to it?

Nico definitely blocked Hamilton on his second fastest lap. He was looking to follow him and see the lines he was taking. He had asked his engineering advice about the lines but his engineer denied him saying he wasn't allowed to provide that information (as should be).

Yes, Rosberg did abort the lap early but you surely get well out of the way for a car on a fast one. Hamilton only aborted once Rosberg had screwed his lap "strategically" positioning himself for maximum effect. Rosberg knew precisely what he was doing and had that sheeping/guilty look in the press conference again.

The most impressive lap for me was Vettel and very pleased to see it as well as he has gone well down in my estimation over the last year or so. =D>

Which is utter bollocks and totally not true. Not according to numbers anyway.

Rosberg is a completely defeated man, he is looking increasingly silly in his desperate attempts to keep up. He is also showing that is a tool.

I agree with that. His confidence looks totally blown and if we look back to that rule coming in last year ref: driver coaching over the radio we've basically seen a gulf open up between the two drivers. In terms of natural talent Hamilton is head and shoulders over Rosberg. If he doesn't change I think Hamilton is going to walk it this year and I don't want that. We need to see a good race.

More than ever we need Alonso in a Merc with Hamilton. Now that would be a proper scrap.

What happened to Kimi? I was watching a Spanish feed so missed a lot of the detail.

Lewis and Vettel qualifying comparison. Look at the water in Lewis' lap.
