on the other hand mclaren has been silver since the late 90s, right when they switched from marlboro to west. i think their philosophy behind this livery is that mclaren is silver and black, and the red is from honda altho they should've written honda with red then aswel. don't forget that all the promotional slogans basicly said they're not going to repeat history, but to make it. whatever the making part means.

yes mercedes color is silver too.

i guess it's just a case of haters gonna hate then.

EDIT: oh and before any of you will start with this "true mclaren colors" or "true to their past" crap. let me just remind you that the only real mclaren color was the mclaren orange which was last used in 1973! since then they've had the colors of their main sponsors. from marlboro, to west, to vodaphone ect. but notice how after the west period they still kept the silver color. this was also around the time when ron started to really turn mclaren into a brand. so i think silver/chrome is the new mclaren color.

but at the end of the day, the livery doesn't make the car go any faster.

now let the flame war begin.

To me, it looks like the car was hurriedly put together. Doesn't seem like there was much thought behind the livery (nowhere close to what we had on this website), no numbers on the car, no "disguising " the lack of sponsors, no DRS, the nose panel doesn't even fit right. Hopefully they were spending all their time on finding pace...

The car, at first glance, looks like each design team worked independently, then they just bolted it together. Like there is no unifying concept.
You're joking, right? While I think the livery is a huge disappointment, the design concept is very flowing unlike last year's car. This is the best looking car since the new regulations. I just wish they painted it different.

Reminds me of the MP4-10 <shudder>. Not in precise looks, but in overall lack of coordination.

Overall it's the best looking car so far, but I still believe the Lotus has the best looking front wing at the moment.

I completely agree with you.
Prodromou, new Honda engine, new nose, no mushroom suspension, sidepods and rear looks much tighter and here we have some "experts" stating this is going to be depressing season solely based on livery. I`m sure the car would be at least 1s faster if it had marlboro livery. :D

That's the basic MP4-30, they were never going to bolt everything on for promo images. Anyway the livery may look better in daylight rather than under studio lights. As it goes ? I don't mind it, never expected them to go back to the Red and White for testing at least. As for the Nose ? I expect we'll see something slightly different on Sunday.

Unless it's a paintjob human error, I don't understand why they chose this very specific livery. It's just like they wanted to fit all WDC winning eras together in one livery: Marlboro white/red, West silver/black/red and Vodafone chrome/red.

Well, I'm for sure no expert, but I've been involved with pro motorsport a long time - almost 30 years - and worked with some interesting chaps along the way. I've even driven professionally in formula cars with one of those current McLaren pilots.

As a long term McLaren supporter I'd like to be optimistic, as I was when they announced the driver lineup. But that is not a car that gives me hope; Prodromou is not Newey, no matter what he did at RB as Adrian's understudy, and Honda is not Mercedes, no matter what they did 25 years ago (McLaren conveniently skipped over Honda's last outing in F1: 2006-2008 is summed up in the 2008 Wikipedia entry: "Honda had another disappointing year").

I was expecting a rough season anyway, with a new car and motor right out of the box, but this just makes me think they have a much bigger hill to climb.

Prozac please.

Livery is terrible. I never expected them to hold on tightly to chrome which reminds everyone of Mercedes anyway. They should have changed it, it would be a lot better if the livery was resembling the Marlboro era.

Now, it looks boring, uninspired and dare I say like a safe choice with minimum risk. Huge disappontment for me.

F1Technical Forum silly season kicks off with disappointing livery = disappointing season.

The livery is an anticlimax to say the least but...

I think the car is a very tidy package with elegant nose and tight coke bottle. Which is all that the observer can say, the devil is always in the detail and absolutely no one should be writing off a season without a lap being made especially with someone of the calibre of Prodromou in charge of the aero package. Honda will very likely deliver a good PU so McLaren have got as much chance as anyone at this stage.

My concern is not just the livery, as sucky as it may be, but also the overall sense of uncoordination in the design, plus the usual issues of a new car in this era.

You could just as easily say "Absolutely no one should be expecting a good season without a lap being made, especially with someone of the calibre of Morris in charge of the mechanical package. Honda will very likely deliver a mediocre PU so McLaren have got as little chance as anyone at this stage."
