This is what happens when people listen to the Snowflakes on social media. There are far more pressing problems in society than this. What is the world coming to?

Im more concerned about over 1000 women losing a job in f1, and probably 1000's more across other sports to come. But you won't see that. You off to protest about all female models now ? Or just women in F1 ?

That can easily be misleading though.

If in that very poll 1000 men voted and only 100 women voted (id say a 10/1 ratio is possible as its followed by men a lot more)

That would mean at the time im looking at the results,

492 people against the change,
370 for the change,
238 dont know.

So you can't use that as a fact. I'm not saying my theory is right, I'm just explaining how easy it is to manipulate figures to make it look how you want.
Incorrect. The methodology means that the poll is weighted to account for that and be representative of the UK population as a whole.
The Formula 1 fanbase clearly isn't representative of the wider UK opinion though. James Allen ran a poll which has collected more than 4000 responses so far. Respondents are 2 to 1 against the banning of grid girls. I would suggest these respondents are a better proxy for the wider Formula 1 audience than the YouGov poll.

I think Liberty have scored a slight own goal here though. They could have justified their decision by simply stating they are seeking to widen the appeal of the sport. They didn't need to censure their existing fanbase.

I think this decision was fairly inevitable. Looking more closely at the YouGov poll provides some interesting insights.

It's absolutely self-evident that the latest cohort of adults don't hold similar values, or opinions, in this regard relative to any other cohort:

18-24: 50:21 in favour of dropping grid girls.
25-49: 40:35 in favour of dropping grid girls.
50-65: 41:37 in favour of dropping grid girls.
65+: 39:37 in favour of dropping grid girls.

The 18-24 cohort response was also the most partisan response recorded across all data fields. Liberty probably has their own research indicating a similar trend.

Ask the girls that fight to get the job if they think it's demeaning to women..

though i kinda agree,

you can ask that to strippers that fight for a job too.
it is definately demeaning to women, but they still will fight for the job - rather hard for it too.
and you could argue 'it's their choice' and you'd be somewhat right.

but reality shows that it's not at all like they're doing that job because they 'like it so much'. and the downsides to it are too much to mention.

i know that's comparing some extremes, but it shows that there's always more to it.

don't get me wrong though. i think this is taking things in the wrong direction, BUT i think F1 is a step ahead of embarassing itself with grid boys. I can't believe Lauda actually proposed that. #-o

i'd rather have NO grid girls than a combo of Grid girls and rainbow-printed-latex-wearing 'grid boys'. ANY day of the week.

anyway, i'll throw in another mix in the bunch and see what they want to make of that;

Carmen Jorda.

good luck.

While I don't understand how people can make such a fuss out of this (incl Liberty), here are a few key items I think that matter.

- The women on the grid were there because they got paid, and wanted to do the job
- Those backing the removal by bringing in kids to the argument, may ask themselves how we all ended up well enough, despite the grid girls being present.

To me, this change is unneeded. But then again, are the girl really needed? I guess not.
But then again... there are numerous other things that could potentially be defined as unneeded.

If anyone wants to add something sensible, feel free, but I'm not sure if there's anything more to discuss in this thread...

So is a discussion about mclaren fans on hamilton, yet that somehow is allowed to stay in general despite it not belonging there either.

Formula 1 To Replace Grid Girls with Grid Kids

Post

Formula 1 and FIA in new Grid Kids partnership

Everyone's thoughts on this?

I personally think it's a great idea since it promotes Formula 1 to younger fans while also inspiring them to work hard to become their heroes.
