Mclaren MP4-30 Honda

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Gentlemen, a reminder the hardware topics are about the technical aspects of the cars/parts, not a place to worship it.

Apparently (rumour rather than a fact?) the chassis McLaren is using with the new nose is different to the one that passed the test and they need to prove (in theory I guess?) that it does not matter. Am I reading it correctly because that can't be right. They had the new chassis that passed the crash tests, now they're using the old one and the new one will be used in GB. Even for infinitely flexible approach to rules by FIA they surely can't run the car without passing crash test?

so Alonso with a 20 place grid penalty and Button with a 25 place grid penalty (20 place + time penalty) for engine changes... What is preventing Mclaren from installing numerous whole power units at Austria, incurring absurd 200+ place grid penalties, and then using one of these power units per race for the rest of the season?

Car looks a lot better with the ewnose, and it seems the upgrades have worked. It's a real shame about that engine, honda need to step up their game.

Yes, I've been wondereing the same. Don't spot any differences on the rear neither. This is Monaco, it just looks like they blocked a hole there?
