I can't believe the filth on this forum. Sainz was totally at fault. I don't want to admit that, but he left no room.

How about we cut the salt and just realise Sainz made a mistake.

Although, pace looks fantastic and Norris! Bloke is in fire!
Knowing the MGU-K we have, I hope he isn't literally in a fire.

Yes, there is a lot of biased and thoughtless fanboy comments in here now.
I wouldn't commit to third fastest car as Norris wasn't able to push later in the race as he was in the start of the race, so I think he used his allotted pushing early on (Fuel). But definitely at least 4th fastest in this race.

But still, only one car finished and the car can very easily not work in China, so there is a lot to do. The only thing that matters is points on the board and we don't have too many yet for a car that maybe a midfield leading car. Things change, others develop and you have to take your points whilst you can or you lose your chance.
Lando switched to used softs, so it was always going to be tricky at the end. In my opinion, Red Bull are still 3rd, even though Carlos was putting pressure on Max, it could have been down to Red Bull's struggles on the softs this weekend.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Sainz looking a little like the stereotypical Latin F1 driver right now, exceptionally fast at times but a bit over-exhuberant and prone to the odd silly error. Lando on the other hand is showing experience and calmness beyond his years, great drive to recover from a bit of bad luck on lap one.

Am I right in thinking Lando’s 6th place finish is the second best finish for McLaren in the turbo-hybrid era (after Alonso’s slightly fortuitous 5th place in Melbourne 2018)?

the car it was 3rd best out there and we loose podium finish after all from max move ....with only one fresh set of M tires and used softs and hard ...compare to others it was tricky good result after opening lap ..but the car it was clearly faster of all ..exept mercedes and ferrari ..in the bad scenario ....bottas pace it was not special ...5-6sec in front of red bull and i am sure mclaren it was faster from them ......ok good points result at the end ...lets push for china to be closer and with better result ....
I can't believe some people on this forum. Carlos was at fault for the move on Max. Plus McLaren is not the 3rd quickest car, and they're certainly not quicker than Mercedes and RBR. Incredible pace this weekend, now McLaren need to continue that for the rest of the races. They were the 4th quickest this weekend, but that can change next weekend, so McLaren needs to develop to the point where they are comfortably the 4th quickest car without any doubts.

With all the drama with Leclerc, I believe that Lando’s performance will not get the spotlight it deserve... By Lap 1 he was 15th on the grid, behind a Gasly, both STR’s, both Renault’s, Raikkonen and Magnussen and of course Sainz.

Of those, he passed all of them during the race with the exception of Hulk (who he passed due the DNF) and Sainz (collision with Verstappen)... That’s an impressive feat.

In addition, he managed to keep RAI on older tires and without DRS all the way to the point of the Safety Car.

Charles is probably driver of the day based on his pole and his moves on Bottas and Vettel, but Norris should be really close in that regard.

Reality is that they weren’t far off from RBR this weekend in both Race Pace and Qualifying.

That’s a great position to be for a team that was clearly at the back of the grid last season with a car that couldn’t be further developed.

Lando is fantastic. Sainz as well, damn shame he forced himself with Verstappen, he should have waited for the straight, but in the other hand he saw he can try and he went for it.

Someone should send a big loaf of bread to Autosport commentators :D

Its only a second race - i know, but still i am delighted at what i am seeing so far. Everyone in the factory deserves praise as well, and so does Renault. Even though the reliability of the unit is not perfect so far, atleast the output is good enough for fighting on the track.
If i would get the money to start my own F1 team, i would revive Arrows

Lots of people were sceptical about Sainz/Norris pair, but so far they are a great asset of Mclaren.

Great post, I completely agree. I voted for Norris as his fight back was really impressive. It went unnoticed as the TV director often times ignored Norris attacking guys. I understand that midfield fights aren't the most interesting so it's to be expected, but Norris did a really good job.

Just watched Norris give an interview on Sky, his demeanor and attitude is great. He talked about him passing Kimi and said that he could have done it earlier, but that he is still hesitant to push the "big moves". Great attitude and gives him time to learn and adapt.

first ..carlos it was in front ...second the move of max to stay so close in turn it was for nothing no way to repass ..after this turn...i dont say anywhere we are faster from mercedes ...but bottas was not fast today ...30sec off from his team mate only 5 in front from red bull ..and yes today mclaren it was faster ...look gasly and norris ...easy recover and pass the second red bull ...gasly it was in front after lap 1 ....i can believe what race you watch ....

Am i the only one annoyed when they replay the overtake/incident when they show the drivers face first, like we dont know how to read and remember how the driver looks. Those are seconds wasted for nothing.
