f*ck just 0.020s ! well, Imola was reversed so I'll take it, second position is good, especially considered how far is Leclerc

bring it on for tomorrow, target is to gain points on Leclerc atm

McLaren ahead even with using Perez to tow Verstappen up to 330kph, so the gap is lower than it should be.

McLaren went from 3-4 tenths behind prior to Miami to outright fastest at Barcelona, one of the Rb20's favourite tracks on paper

The higher downforce isn't ideal over 1 lap in my opinion but it will be good for tires tomorrow in dirty air and following before the DRS zones.

I heard that also Lando got a tow from an Alpine, we will have to check.

Meh, the tow if intentional wasn't executed particularly well. Perez passed on his push lap into T10, so Max was really a bit too far back down the main straight. Anyways, the lap looked very good, nothing in it.

Nope, Lando's lap was just replayed on the sky feed now and it was clean all the way through.

There was just a slight tow as Alpine was finishing the lap ahead of Norris. But they slowed down after the line - they didn't tow to T1.

Unless Ferrari makes a serious upgrade to put them comfortably ahead of Red Bull or Red Bull has serious reliability issues, Leclerc isn't going to be a challenger for WDC. Between, with McLaren and now Mercedes getting ahead of Ferrari, it's helpful for Max. He simply has to keep optimizing points, even if wins go away, as the teams behind have higher development time available to them and they might jump Red Bull if their upcoming upgrades doesn't deliver as big a performance as they expect.

But if the poles start drying up like the last 3, it would start frustrating Max as the race pace would also get better for the chasing pack, making it difficult to get ahead in races.

He got a decent tow. Only halfway down the straight, but he was closer to the car ahead than Verstappen.

yeah I fully agree, this is not 2023, said it many times, Max needs to maximize points and win when it's possible; we have to do a kinda damage limitation this handful of races before, hopefully, the rumored major update will arrive and give a boost in performance, McLaren won't bring anymore big packages, Ferrari as well have almost finished with their upgrades (but in their case it's maybe better since their supposed miraculous upgrades are drawing them back lol)

Max flat in the final corner, Norris not. Red Bull slightly faster on all straights.

Interesting. It suggest the Red Bull is still more efficient?

Max is running more downforce but has lower minimum speed in every corner, and also gains on the following straight of every corner. Can assume that is down to max compromising apex speed for better exit ie driving style
I could also believe the run to T10 comes down to deployment yes

The gap before T1 is 1 tenth for Max when without tow he would usually lose time to Norris here.

Looks like slow speed understeer. Something for the flexi-wing to solve perhaps.

Also strange how much the deployment varies for Max between runs. Here is the run in Q2 compared to the first run in Q3. He didn't have a tow in either and the speed varies quite a lot down the main straight.Image
