Because he has radio com with his team and he very well knew who was behind him and that if he does that the pole is his.

Team - "Michael you're on P1 just pull out one of your tricks"
What a genius he is! Made a decision immediately and done it perfectly without any damage! :roll:

The sad thing here is that weather MS did it on purpose or not, it doesn't change the result: The qualification have been spoiled today, and that is unfair for Renault and Mac laren of course, but also for us fans of this great sport.
What you're supposed to want if you love this sport is to see the quickest one on the pole, then the others in the order of their respective time. You all know that strategy about fuel load have a strong influence on a driver's pace, and maybe (that seems very probable) FA and KR were a bit lighter than MS. If the qualy did end normally, we would have an intense race ahed for tomorrow, with MS maybe slightly slower but a bit heavyer. But now there's a serious risk that the driver on pole benefits from both grid position and more fuel, and does not deserve it. What you can't argue is that he certainly did not achieve this by any sort of talent, unless he was cheating (if cheating is a talent...).
So the true reason everyone (appart die hard shu fans) is angry is because now our race has been spoiled. That's a fact.

82) Accident data recording :

a) Each car must be fitted with an FIA accident data recorder during each Event and during all tests
which are attended by more than one team. Teams must use their best endeavours to ensure that
the recorder is in working order at all times. The only purpose of these units is to monitor, record or
control one or more of the following :

- data relevant to an accident or incident ;
- a deceleration warning light on board the car ;
- a lap trigger ;
- the driver input signal used to initiate the propulsion of the car at the start of a race.

b) At any time following an accident or incident competitors must make the data recorder available and
accessible to the FIA. A representative of the team concerned may be present when data relevant to
an accident or incident is being uploaded from the recorder. A copy of the data will be made available
to the team.

c) Any conclusions as to the cause of an accident, or any data relevant to an accident, may only be
published in the form of a report which has been agreed between the team concerned and the FIA.

I must say that one great thing came out of this. This is that Alonso showed his true class in the press conference by remaining professional and calm. He did completely the right thing by talking about his own performance, and not passing comment or getting heated.

True, true Champion. He most definitely has my respect and I am certainly more of a fan!
All he did was apply some more lube and touch his toes!!!
i agree he looked like a whiny little kid on the podium i should have had first :sniff:

What happened at these races?
I'm not sure about 1997.
But I believe Australia 1994 was when Schumacher went into a wall, then as Damon Hill was about to overtake...
That video is fascinating, thanks.

Apparently, the '97 incident involved a crash with Villeneuve:

Looked like a cheat from where I was...........it was a soppy "mistake". Didn't for a second look like a near crash. Even before the car had stopped, my lips were forming the words "cunning stunt! :wink: "

Nearly as clumsy as the one he pulled on JV all those years back.

Drivers are in constant communication with their engineers, and Shu most likely was very aware of Alonso's lap, and consequences if he was able to finish it. Before he had arrived at the scene of his "event", he would have known that both Alonso and Kimi were putting in VERY quick laps.
It's up to the telemetry and the stewards.
I won't comment on whether he "cheated", but one fact I do stand by is that Michael Schumacher is the most ruthless racer in the history of motorsport, and has been known to do almost anything to achieve his goals.
Just to add that the Stewarts have access to communicaitons TOO. So, all other guys just stop spoiling your poison until the stewart's desision. By the way, you have to admit that it was way too risky and hit the barriers. So, in case he did cheat, shoot him. In case that stewarts say that it was a human error, what are you going to tell? And before you even thing your answer, remember that F1 is in France. And Renault is a French company. OK?

Risky would be parking in tunnel that is why he parked at one of the slowest turns. In case Mosley's stewards say it was human error that will be their expected opinon and Monaco isn't in France.

I agree, but if someone does that over and over again than he can't be called great driver but great rule bender even though this had noting to do with rule bending 'cause it was purest of all cheatings.

It looked to me like he could still have made the corner when he stalled, even if it required leaning on the barriers, the car is strong ehough to withstand that.

1997 Schumacher deliberatly (undoubtably) tried to run Villenurve off the road at Jerez for the championship. Michael lost all his championship points for that move.

He is perfectly capable of winning races without this crap and he is clearly smart enough to calculate his move within seconds yet he keeeps cheating. Why?
tpe: perhaps, the French do have an embarrasing history for this kind of thing, no offence of course, but I think they have stopped for a long time and most French people support Ferrari as much as Ranault I reakon.
Even my dad who doesn't follow all the tech aspects of F1 and generally gives the driver the benefit of the doubt immediatly said, 'wait a minute, that must be cheating'

In the press conference Schumacher realised what hed done and regreted it, hence the body language. Alonso did well not to say anything.
Big question: Ferrari or just Michael? I suspect the latter. From what I heard Ferrari are as pissed about the move as the others, although they must defend him of course.
Maybe this will make him think more about retiring?

P.S. What are DC and Fisi being investigated for?
