Aston Martin AMR22

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

That blister on the engine cover looks huge. Wonder how much smaller the works Mercedes could get it.

Is it just me but it feels like the sidepods packaging is a lot beefier than that it was before? Did we take a step back on packaging or did Aston do this intentionally?

If Aston Martin can progress as much as Vettel's hairline, they're definitely getting some podiums

Are there minimum radius rules for the sidepods? The transition from the flat panel to the rest of the sidepod is quite sharp.

It looks like a disk on the sidepods, quite wide. I hope they manage to make it slimmer.

Interesting detail on the rear wing elements:

Once they start tuning the rear wing, won't the main plane be "desaligned" with side planes?

The beam wing is a like a parachute! Reminds me of the McLaren rear suspension arms from a few years ago.

Getting that beam wing to work with the diffuser is going to be a key area of work, it seems to me.
If you are more fortunate than others, build a larger table not a taller fence.

They reduced the section of the monocoque above and below, no more on the sides of nose.

Same thing was asked of the Haas. It's definitely intentional. Most likely because the bargeboards disappeared and airflow has to be controlled differently. I'm no expert but that's seems to be the going theory.

The "barge board extension" (BBE) to the front edge of the floor certainly extends well forward. The FIA have basically given them a single bargeboard as part of the rules. I can see this being finessed over time to get just the right vorticity off it to help with the front tyre wake.

really a beauty! In my Opinion are the new rules better for nice formula 1 cars then the rules until 2021. Nice!
