AlphaTauri AT04

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

What is causing so much downwash on the side of the sidepod?
Looks like the edge winglet is channelling the flux quite hard, and I reckon those strakes create vorticies that induce downwash inside the undercut.

The designer really thought about making it racy, what a work of art!

Quite a deep undercut. Rear wing endplate looks very twisty.

Seems AT was the only team to provide the FIA with a model of their car to use for the show and tell

The flow in that area is going to follow the sidepod down, and some of it will be attached to the sidepod too so its expected it would head in that direction, but I agree is pretty aggressive.

Just a question, This is technically the first session on the year, Why would teams need to submit changes between testing and now?

Sometimes upgrades aren't ready for testing in time and they arrive at Bahrain ready to be raced between testing and the first race. RB almost had to do that last year as their Bahrain testing update only arrived on day 3 of the test (when it was most likely anticipated to arrive for day 1 or day 2)

The declaration documents above are actually changes listed compared to the end of 2022 car, so these aren't all changes from testing.

A sizeable upgrade package for Australia. Performance seeking updates to most of the floor and also diffuser. All of the floor fences have changed

Image

Significant changes at the front floor. Much more in line with other teams here now.

Couldn't it be a pressure tank for the pneumatic valves that they've relocated?
