It's not just having a title sponsor that has been Renault's supposed issue with Red Bull, it's that the title sponsor is a car company that's been the problem.mclaren111 wrote:"TJ13 has been repeatedly asserting since December 2013, that McLaren have no intention of adorning their new Honda powered car with a title sponsor. Honda do not want to suffer the same fate of diluted publicity that Renault have bitterly complained about during the Infiniti Red Bull title winning years.
It appears that Mclaren will unveil the MP4-30 in an entirely black livery. This will be a testing livery only and by the time Melbourne comes around, the debate over a title sponsor will be put to bed for another year"

That's not really true, Infiniti is part owned by Renault:-ScottB wrote:It's not just having a title sponsor that has been Renault's supposed issue with Red Bull, it's that the title sponsor is a car company that's been the problem.mclaren111 wrote:"TJ13 has been repeatedly asserting since December 2013, that McLaren have no intention of adorning their new Honda powered car with a title sponsor. exactly. Most of all, it just looks uncooirdinated and messy. those red mirrors just look awkward and it looks like the red just stops there even though it 'curvers' to the back of the car. It looks indeed like an old HRT, it looks like a backmarker, even.ScottB wrote:For me, they've shot themselves in the foot with their whole marketing campaign in the build up to this season. At every opportunity they've been showing red and white cars, churning out marketing collateral with white, black and rocket red / orange, constantly hinting at the 80's etc. To then wheel out what is, for me at least, a pretty poor attempt at a West era livery was only ever going to disappoint.
I mean, if they'd been showing us lots of shots of the West era cars, hinting at that colour scheme, I suspect it would have received a warmer welcome. Even if they'd just shown a selection of various different Mclarens, but not just the one iconic style. Don't get people excited about something you aren't going to give them, essentially.
I don't mind the retention of the chrome, it's been a Mclaren 'colour' since then the end of the West days, indeed, a brand less Mclaren in the modern sense probably is chrome with rocket red, as we saw pre Vodafone, which might have worked quite nicely. I don't quite get the rationale behind reverting to a livery most closely associated with their time as a Mercedes works team. Secondly, the way it's been done just makes it look bare, which could have been disguised a bit with a better livery.
In short, it was pretty underwhelming, which is the fault of whoever dreamed up the associated marketing campaign.
With regards to the red and white, this could still Happen!Manoah2u wrote:so much better

It is yeah, but the ongoing rumour has been that Renault feels like they don't get enough exposure / credit for their efforts, while Infiniti are doing well out of the deal. I'm not convinced myself, but it's a rumour that appears fairly often, so maybe there's some substance to it.Diesel wrote:That's not really true, Infiniti is part owned by Renault:-ScottB wrote:It's not just having a title sponsor that has been Renault's supposed issue with Red Bull, it's that the title sponsor is a car company that's been the problem.mclaren111 wrote:"TJ13 has been repeatedly asserting since December 2013, that McLaren have no intention of adorning their new Honda powered car with a title sponsor. Renault would never have agreed it if they weren't happy with it.
