Agree the Australian GP will be held as normal with a crowd, etc. It might be the first--and last--race of the season held on these terms.

As time goes on, political pressure to either cancel races or cancel crowds in attendance at races will only increase. The whole thing is going to get much worse before it gets better. We have at least 6 months of ever increasing bad numbers ahead of us.

I somehow have the feeling Italy stopped counting or publishing numbers. No new updates to their numbers since yesterday....?
I don’t think Italy’s updates are as dodgy as China’s!

They have not. Every day 6 pm local time there is a press conference in which they publish daily numbers. Today's are the worst since the beginning of the epidemic - 196 deaths and 2300 new infections.

True, but it seems that yesterday's result were partial (just 600), and counted today. The trend is still there, the same.

About 600 of those should be counted as yesterday's cases. Yesterday the authorities from Lombardy didn't release the count in time for the press conference.

we (in the UK) have been told that Mrs Merkel says that 70% (of Germans) will be exposed to the virus
so (for the first time ever) I agree with her

That would mean 3 million dead in Germany alone, going by the current dead rate of 5% in Italy. Even if they manage to half that you are looking at 1,5 million people. That is not a flu, that is a partial genocide,

she only quotes her expert. cough cough. And this one expert estimates that in two years 60-70% of all Germans will have contracted it.

Germany is basically doing nothing serious to prevent the spreading of this disease.
basically no on wears a mask, people cough in your face on public transport.
There is no education on all media means how to conquer this... absoulutely shameful and pathetic for such a rich and prosperous country.
Doctors are left without masks and disinfectants, there is no plan, no procativeness, no reactiveness... just apathy.
Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.

Part of the reason why doctors are left without masks is perhaps because so many members of the general public, who don't really benefit from using a mask, now want one - decreasing the stock available for medical professionals.

With the infectivity, lack of clear, distinguishable symptoms, and relatively low mortality rate, it's not unlikely the virus is here to stay and that it will be part of next year's flu wave too - so yeah, it's well possible that a majority of the population gets infected in the coming years. But perhaps those that manage to avoid it this year have a vaccination available to protect them during the next flu wave, if they're in a risk group at least.

The Government just did not prepare. Doctors were not told to prepare because when you close your eyes, as you know, no one can see you.

Anyway, I still d lik eto see at least one GP in the first half of 2020.

Just because they don't shut down parts of the country doesn't mean nothing is being done ... in areas with 'large' numbers of infections all events with 1000+ people are being cancelled, football matches are being played in empty stadiums, there's guidelines etc ... it's only that people aren't panicking or overreacting ... and the death rate (so far) has been 0.2% (old people with heart diseases or sth)

I know that this is an F1 forum, obviously, but it was quite funny to see what happened in Paris - game was supposed to be without a crowd, said crowd just ended up gathered outside the stadium, even tighter packed than they would have ever been inside the stadium, watching the game on their phones or whatnot...
