Marko on why fp2 was worse:

"It's a mixture of several reasons. The car is sliding too much. I think it's more mechanical."

Worth noting that weather predictions are all over the place. The dry running might end up meaning nothing.

The balance looked perfect in the low speed on the hard tire long run in FP1. If anything you could say it started to lose the rear towards the end but this made rotation very good (similar pattern with Merc/Mclaren). In FP2 on the medium, there was a lot of understeer in low speed. Balance and limitation trending opposite to Mclaren/Merc. It's possible that the changes that were made have overcompensated.

Red Bull is launching its fourth major upgrade this year in Silverstone. In 2023, one was enough. In Milton Keynes, the new parts are expected to deliver a lot. Wind tunnels and simulations are producing promising figures.

New floor worth 0.05s according to Marko

He also talked about not overestimating upgrades bringing significant performance as only Max's RB20 running with the new floor:

"It was around six points, which is half a tenth. Visually, the layman sees no difference."
This doesn't add up.

I think the Silverstone update is simply not big. Or Marko is falsifying the numbers, or a bit of both

this should be a very good interview with Waché, talking about upgrades and development path, unfortunately it's behind paywall (will wait for some hacker putting it on archive site :D )

July month crucial for Red Bull

In that respect, the month of July is crucial. Red Bull has already introduced a new floor at Silverstone this weekend and the factory in Milton Keynes will be working hard in the coming weeks to come up with a significant package of brand new material for the race after that, in two weeks in Budapest (21 July).
Well that's very clear
"The regulations have been the same for a few years now and there are a lot of restrictions, so we do a lot of work for only small margins. I certainly think that we can continue to develop this car and that we can still find a lot of performance in the coming period."

thanks organic !

well, I kinda hoped that having overhauled the concept of the car they could have bigger margins of improvement, but that doesn't seem to be the case, which make you think that had they sticked with the old concept they would have been fuc*ed

now we will see what this Budapest package brings...

Yes, Verstappen is the favorite, in FP2 his engine mode was low, in principle the same can be said about Merc, who lost 3-4 tenths to McLaren in the first sector

it's also true that RB is more aero loaded than McLaren, so maybe not all of that gap is coming from engine mode

RBPT engine program is not meeting deadlines according to this article
(google translate)
Red Bull strongly believes in the work done and in terms of power expressed by the 2026 power units, the Austrian engines will be absolutely on par with those of the competition: Mercedes and Ferrari above all. These are the words released to the media which however do not coincide with the information we have collected.
[...]
During the meeting there is the opportunity to ask some questions about the project in question. Thanks to the information gathered first-hand, which has allowed us to expose with some confidence the various details that we have just outlined, we know that the examiners have not hidden a certain delay in their work plan. Furthermore, the men from Milton Keynes have confided that in the last period several engineers have been hired, especially from Mercedes (and this should not be surprising), concentrating on the acquisition of their technical background.
[...]
Consequently, the Austrian-Thai team needs to give a strong acceleration on the work plan which, as mentioned, is not respecting the deadlines initially set. And this is, probably, the most sensational news, beyond the superficial proclamations of these last months.

It's a stiff car. It will be tricky in wet conditions. Maybe they delayed upgrades because of the weather. There won't be much learning tomorrow.
