Red Bull vs Ferrari. That was the conclusion after the test drives. This picture continued on the first day of practice for the Bahrain GP. However, Max Verstappen's lead is larger than it appears in the time table. According to team measurements, Red Bull has more reserves in terms of engine power and tank capacity.

The Red Bull's superiority was clearer in the long run than in one lap. "Max is in a league of his own," said Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff[/quote]

RedBull might also sand bag in qualifying too, the way Mercedes did in 2014.

If Perez doesn't qualify well tomorrow though, the two Ferraris can tag team Max with strategy.

Ferrari didn't do a single representative long pace run later on, they said they did plenty during the testing last week and didn't need to do any today.

How can you measure how much more power there is left in another car?

Hard to figure the Mercs...still gotta figure sandbagging (based on rep., exp., past perf.). However, if so, Toto deserves an oscar as he looked genuinely worried...with Horner looking calm and totally unconcerned in FP2 when Checo sat in the garage. I never saw Bino.

As for power modes...I wonder if we would not have a better show if they were banned. Drivers can of course use their right foot to alter modes. Personally, I would rather see genuine pace and set up activities rather than Toto and Horner playing poker.

I reckon something like this come Quali

Ver
LEC
sainz
per
Alo
Rus
ham

Might even be a AT somewhere on the lower end of that list too.
I have same feeling but Alo and Rus might finish ahead of Per. Thatโ€™s my guess

Depends how much Checo gets on with the new car. The last one was well suited to Max's driving style of getting the back end to come round into the corner. This season might be different in being you need to be more smoother and less 'attack' so could play into his hands well.

I strongly think checo has been on a different programme to Max in terms of working out race pace, tyre deg etc. As max being the harder driver typically means the car can be tweaked for the faster running, whilst checo can be the 'smooth guy' doing the longer runs and tyre deg runs.

Yes indeed, the โ€œlong runsโ€ are not at all representative today.

With DRS Mercedes can delay the purpoising, without DRS it starts at around 270+ that won't be raceable(i think), how can you come into the braking zone bouncing up and down like that.

Those people putting all these stats together just surprises me, team are running on a different program and itโ€™s a new regulation so using past events to judge who is faster or who will win show we donโ€™t know racing. Merc could also be on poll tomorrow because they have a good engine. Everyone banking on Redbull may be surprised.

Mercedes and RBR seem equal in speed at this point. Seems Max however is able to get more from the car.

Are you watching the same season as the rest of us?

It's fine to create a pro-Max narrative, but at least think it through before going public with it.

Yeah. No. That RedBull should be behind the Williams actually.
