And the most positive thing of all, the engine modes they ran here will be ran in the race, this might mean that we can fight with Red Bulls and Racing Point for the podium.

Amazing qualifying session for McLaren... Amazing job by Carlos... Wondering if the lack of the update on the side pod deflectors hampered Lando, he was one tenth down on Carlos every session in S1... And we were just 2 hundreds of a second from P5 from Red Bull... Amazing performance... Great positions to start the GP tomorrow

Used soft for both on the final run according to the mclaren app. Wow!
I doubt this is true. Sainz saved a set in Q1, Norris did only an outlap on his second set in Q1, so they both probably had new softs for both runs.
Well you can think what you want but I have no reason to not believe them. They made the point several times on team stream. So it sounded like a pretty epic final run

Sure, but if you follow the team and notice the times they can do on used sets then you know any time they use a used set in Q3, they are half a second or a second slower than with the new tires. This was happening consistently in each race where they were in Q3 with only one set. There is no chance that Sainz improved with a used set and ended up ahead of Verstappen.

Does it matter really? The team placed both cars in the second and third row... P3 on merit... The progress that has been made is great!

It will be a tough race tomorrow... But, the car has good pace and we can fight for big points!

They probably weren’t using the Max Qualy mode in those first runs in the past, no point since they were already using used tires... So the jump in performance was mostly due to engine mode rather than tires (not saying that the tires don’t play a role)... In addition, with so few corners at Monza, the loss of performance from the tires shouldn’t be as big

Superb! Race pace looked decent compared to those behind, so a genuine shot at a podium tomorrow. Nails at the ready.

Norris just said on Sky he was on tires with one outlap on them. So it is almost certain that Sainz was on new tires as he did not come out for a second run in Q1. Doesn't matter though.

McLaren finally has pace to do one run in Q1 so that they can get two runs on new tires in Q3. This is the sign that the team is joining the top teams. Hopefully we can continue that run.

Tough to pass here so track position is paramount. Great positions to be in. If we can be in the same positions by lap 3 tomorrow, podium is on.

Exactly! Although, Monza is a one-off race and we shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves just yet... But... Let’s enjoy this moment! Mclaren on the second and third row, on merit, without penalties to the ones ahead, no changing weather conditions or other external factors is the best performance from the team in ages.

The fact that it was also achieved without Qualy modes and with the same performance expected during the race also bodes well for tomorrow...A clean getaway, try to stay in the tow of the Mercedes for Carlos and hopefully Lando can make a move early on Perez and we could be in for a great Sunday and a very important amount of points for the WCC.

So pumped right now!

One more positive, everyone is starting on the same tires, so no one has an advantage. Same engine modes, same tires, we have to fight for the podium.

Only risk is that if the Mercs drop Carlos quickly, DRS could make him vulnerable

Can Chicane or anyone help with Carlos and Lando’s second Q3 laps?
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
