A lot of childish comments about the black silver and red being rubbish. Guess you didn't like the Mika era livery. It's a livery that will do for the moment, looks pretty cool, and Ron has given a good explanation of why there isn't something more elaborate.

Wasn't too long ago that Sauber was voted the best livery with that boring as hell grey, now look at the state of it.
People seemed to like the one and only Brawn because it was fast, but really it had one of the most uninspired livery ever, for the full year. Didn't stop some sponsors coming in though
Red Bull have had the worst livery consistently since joining F1, hasn't done them any harm.
Mercedes have silver and mint green or whatever that is. Turquoise? Looks weird. Again doesn't do them any harm.

Etcetera.
Finally, everyone knows that Red Bull is a joke and Max Verstappen is overrated.

Looks nice from this angle. Classic and contemporary!

I think Mclaren themselves are to blame for all the hate. After all they were hyping up the possible revival of red and white with their teaser images and videos pre launch, then unveiling bog standard black/grey with red stripe as an afterthought. Maybe if the red, silver and black were integrated in a more visually pleasing way it wouldn't be that bad!

The livery is simply a lack of quality workmanship.

Like any craft, graphic designers come in different standards. McLaren's just happens to be a poor one.

The design is about as inspired and nuanced as this.

PS: that GSXR livery was designed in 1995 so TWENTY years ago.

McLaren is no where near as "cutting edge" as Ron Dennis thinks it is.

F1 car width now 2.0m (same as 1993-1997). Lets go crazy and bring the 2.2m cars back (<1992).

I'm beginning to think it's actually just a straightforward lack of intelligence or insufficient mental horsepower on Ron Dennis' part. Perhaps he has a low IQ?

Truly striking minimalism is classy but not everyone can do it. Had he gone for a striking yet -minimalistic- design with large areas of solid neon color (duo tone if he had the courage) mixed in with empty areas for potential logos then sponsors would have taken note by now.

But he himself has stated he doesn't connect the dots as to why he should.

Instead he reveals this muted, drab, dark gray car which, if at all noticed on the grid is forgettable.

These purely opinion-based threads on F1T are really not a good idea.

Some people like the livery, some don't. Any discussion beyond that point is pretty futile.

What's the harm? This *is* the "General Chat" sub-forum.

Interesting thread... More comments on the livery than the actual car...

To be perfectly honest I am somewhat disappointed by what was a very anti-climax launch...

Honda has less visibility than MOBIL on the car which is interesting...

One thing I can not see anywhere obvious is SAP who appeared on the side pods for a few races last, and also Santander??

I believe McLaren have a sponsor in the wood work and are waiting for them to sign on dotted line which will explain why they are keeping them side pods black.

One thing I can not believe is that nobody thought of that livery Red Bull have. BMW have used it for years to hide there new models and does a great job in hiding the bodywork!

Also to add... Isn't it Ironic that the worst livery to ever exist in F1 history would have to go to ... Honda!

perhaps you did not notice it, but the thread title literally says Mclaren Livery.
