My god this is depressing. Max half a second clear. Jesus
When I read stuff like this I just think back to 1992-3, 2004 or 2014 and think how close it is throughout the field now!
Haven't heard complaints about dirty air anymore.

It will be interesting to see if checo does similar to what Max did last year. Get out of DRS and go straight into management on the tyres. Checo’s race to lose tomorrow IMHO.

Did you watch Spa last year? Max has 340 reasons to think he can win tomorrow.

Verstappen didn't get into the lead before lap 42 last year. Are you referring to another race?

If Alonso jumps him, then I doubt if he can even be on podium as he loses performance badly when behind cars and the Mercs and Ferrari will mug him.

Congrats to Perez. Ferrari running the PU in tractor mode almost all sessions is quite intriguing. Good job by Piastri hope he gets a full race this weekend. Really interested in seeing Stroll's telemetry from the last lap. He was closely matching Perez then gave up 6 tenths in the final sector.

Charles doesn’t seem very confident about race pace tbh so probably not gonna hold out too much hope for him having a race setup.
It sounded as if he doesn’t think it will give them much an an advantage, since many of the teams won’t struggle with it much. Didn’t sound as though he thought it was necessarily bad.
True yeah, I think you’re right that they’re not at all worried about race pace. But also not an “ace up their sleeve” which I was somewhat hoping for, especially on Charles’ car, given they knew he would have to come through the field.
He also did say he thought FP2 is hard to use to judge other teams by, with everyone doing different programs and such. So in the end, who knows how Ferrari stack up, but the assumption is that deg won’t be the deciding factor. Perhaps Ferrari’s straight line/acceleration will give them that advantage

Search, mendis, AR3…. Sorry I meant last race in Bahrain. Not last year. My bad. Apologies

The midfield looks super-tight and could be very tasty. Too much daylight between the RB and the rest of the leaders though; would love to see 1-2 tenths, like that one beautiful year when Merc and Ferrari were slugging it out in the first half.

Everyone's talking about back straight, but here's some top speed numbers from start/finish straight:
perez top speed on start/finish straight on his pole lap (1st q3 attempt) was 329 kmh. On his last attempt (aborted) it was 335 kmh.
Leclerc 327 kmh, but barely, unlike perez who sits at 329 for several seconds.
Alonso 319 kmh
russell 324 kmh

Max should easily breeze through the midfield with his car being 1 second a lap faster. Put my money on it that he will be third on the road before mid-race.

I don't think so. I think Perez will be either 1st or 2nd (to Verstappen). The car is quick. His long runs were strong in FP2. Half a second clear of the others. The Aston Martin is a dog on the straights. Leclerc has a grid drop. Who is going to challenge Perez except for Verstappen?

Mercedes didn’t cheat the budget cap to get its domination though…
The car concepts between Ferrari, Merc, and RB are so different that things can't be explained solely by budgets. Take the time/cost delta and give it to Merc: if they are barking up the wrong tree, they'd have only barked at the same tree with more money.

"Mercedes gained too much faith in its car design after the improvements it made in 2022, said Toto Wolff, but now admits it got its concept “wrong”."
