I remember a rear end photo of the RB5 with flames still lingering in the pipes...i wonder if we will see even less this year with the fuel efficiency being a premium concern.

Interestingly in the Nascar (insert name here) Cup series, Roush Racing went a on a fuel saving binge and found that it INCREASED throttle off raw fuel dumps. Based on that we might see MORE flames. Lots of caveats apply ..

Still as much heat as these exhausts expel doesn't it seem quite weird that RB can just shoot it right onto the CF floor, thru the CF control arms, and aimed at the CF diffuser??? I didn't see any heat plates on those photos and and even if those pics were taken on it's first outlap the exhaust should be a bit carboned up. Just look at the decals they put on the car .. they ARE carboned up. It's these things that make me think this lower exhaust exit is a rouse ..

You think they don't?????? How many people work at RB? How big a deal is it to do this if they are really dumping the pipes into the diffuser? No add'l bodywork would be required. It's really the perfect way to disguise what they really might be doing. We'll see ..

To me, it'd be a big waste of time that they could spend on something else. If they have made the lower ones as a rouse, they've got the entire F1 world off-guard. Even the ones employed to look at such details (like in Autosport) up close and therefore in greater detail than we can see in relatively small pictures.
A sticker is alot easier to design than a new exhaust system though. But the benefits of a lower exhaust will surely outweigh the cons of showing it now. The other teams will have a hard time designing a new set-up. Especially with a week until the next race.

As you say, we shall see.

At the other end of the car, anyone know if RB got around to adjustable front wings this season? Surely they do have a bit of an advantage in being able to hang on the back of cars around corners by increasing front downforce. Could be really useful in places like Malaysia where hairpins lead onto straights and Monza around the parabolica.

I'm assuming they must do. Especially after Jenson said it was so critical for maintaining the balance of the car as the fuel burns off.

There are serrated edges at the juncture of the end plates at the upper front wing plates. I presume they are there for the adjust ability.

Ah ... I've been supporting Vettel for years, now he's named his chassis after my girlfriend ;)

I can't help but cheer for him now!

I've really warmed to Vettel since he started in F1. I like the guys with an oddball sense of humour who also say what they think. Sadly, there's not the depth of characters like Jacques 'Overalls' Villeneuve, Kimi '---' Raikkonen, Mark 'Shitbox' Webber and Sebastian 'Luscious' Vettel.

A German with a sense of humour? Surely not?

The only germans with a sense of humour are engineers. Who would design a bolt 4 inches long with only 3 inches of room to get it out besides the germans.
