Reigniting an ancient thread for this beauty!! First time I've seen the DDD intake so clearly and from this angle.
Is that a Renault floor?
Toyota
Ah. I remember an image of the Renault diffuser taken from behind after a load of extinguisher had been chucked about. I remember some vanes that looked similar to your image. But on reflection, I think they weren't moulded in the way that "your" floor is.

Is this from 2009?

That or 2010. If it's the Toyota it would likely be the unraced TF110, which was bought by Stefan GP. Which might explain why it's on display.

Interesting. I ask because I'm trying to see how it would be legal. I thought the Brawn solution that used inlets on the side of the plank section was the only viable way for the second (higher) diffuser. Care to explain?

The step plane was allowed up to a 50mm radius edge on it, but cannot be seen through from below. So the vanes are added to block the hole. I think the Brawn floor was more similar to this than was drawn by Piola/Scarbs and co. They're relying on piecing together information because, as far as I'm aware, there are no photo's of the Brawn from beneath.

IMO it should never have been legal, but I think there was some pressure from Bernie because the "narrative" of the Brawn revival from the ashes of Honda was Hollywood box office stuff.

it's actually hard for me to tell where the openings are in that pic. Also sad all the old image links are long dead. This was one of my favourite aero innovations and I wish it had stuck around longer.

Renault had openings in the floor like that too but they blanked them (in accordance with the rules) with aero profiles. You can see them through the rear of the bodywork thanks to the extinguisher that was fire around the rear of the car.

The use of the hole in the vertical section between the reference plane and the step plane was used previously by the teams. Here's the F2004 and you can see the hole between the central diffuser section and the outer diffuser sections - the light is passig through giving the highlights deep in the centre section. Indeed, it was this former use of a hole that was argued by the teams in the double diffuser debacle. It was pointed out to Ferrari (one of the complaining teams) that they had been illegal for years if they took the view that the hole as illegal. I seem to remember that Ferrari even admitted that the former designs were illegal. Such was the concern about the effect of the double diffuser.

Some of the best and most 'peak' F1Tech stuff here.

Amazing work and such brtually effective designs.

How/why is it I never see/hear/read anything at all about Exhaust Generated Suction diffusers? Hasn’t slid by everyone surely, has it?

That's 2011. I think they changed the rule so only the vertical transition between the step and reference planes could be used in 2011.
The rules were changed for 2011 with the specification of a large area of the floor which could contain no fully enclosed holes even where there was nothing to shadow. This then forced our devious minds to work on other potential loopholes......

Redbull accident with Mark happened in 2010

I think double deck dffuser era ended with 2010.

2011 was begining of exhaust sealed diffuser

Interesting that there is another section that opens up above the beam wing. Not sure if that was from the below or above the floor, or just exhaust gases?

I wonder why, in between the lakes, RedBull made such a fuss about sweeping the grid spot and then have all, or most of their pit crew, stand around the rear of the car? You don’t think they had something visible to hide do you? You know, like a mechanised diffuser! There’s something else as well. What was that airy-fairy arty-farty car business all about? Was they push pullin’ at something do yer reckon!
