Stewards reject protest against diffusers
Following a long meeting and discussions between the involved teams, Brawn GP, Williams and Toyota have been given allowance to compete in this weekend's Australian Grand Prix with their current diffuser designs.
Earlier on Thursday, Ferrari, Renault and Red Bull had filed complaints against the diffusers as they are deemed not to comply with the spirit of the new rules. However, late in the evening the stewards issued a statement that confirms rejecting the protest.
The decision will no doubt be a morale boost for the three investigated teams. After the Grand Prix however, the protesting teams are still allowed to appeal the decision after which a court hearing will decide the final stance on the diffuser row.
Interestingly, McLaren and its associated team Force India F1 have not lodged protests. It is reported that McLaren and BMW Sauber have in the meantime developed their own double deck diffuser, while Force India had a similar design running in its wind tunnel back in January.
