What was the fastest time in the rain? A 1:30 if I believe, that would still place virgin 7 seconds off the pace.

Ouch, either thats some serious sandbagging or a serious problem.

The car looks like it shouldn't be that far off the pace so maybe they're just toeing it in.

Or they're a new team, with a new car, that they're still learning about and how to set up, with no historical data to draw from. Plus the track was wet which probably exacerbates things, as they're bound to be lacking down force.

Give em time and I'm sure they'll do okay. They'll be a few seconds off the sharp end, but I'd be surprised if it was as much as 7 seconds come Bahrain in normal conditions.

Check out the rubber buildup on the inside of the rear tires. Shows up really well in this shot. I wonder if there are any teams that are not battling this problem in testing?

1. F. Bulk Ferrari F10 1:28.299 5 pit
2. M. Schumacher Mercedes GP W01 2:08.678 +40,379 1

It is cold and wet. Miserable in one word.

This test week is one big waste. They should have booked Bahrain instead. A bit more transport cost but you get to run 90% of the time. In Jerez they are loosing 50% and more.

errm

isn't it that teams cannot have test days on a circuit that will host the immediate race in the calender year or something like that?? i.e., if they do book dates for Bahrin, they would have enough practice of the circuit with the machinary already and there would be no meaning of friday and saturday free practice..... :wtf:

ye thats true, it would be like Barcelona all over again where it makes the race weekend so boring

plus last year a lot of time was lost due to sandstorms. At least in the rain they can run, its just not ideal. unfortunately with winter testing theres always a risk of rain.

Im surprised they choose valencia (as all the teams agreed its not a good testing track) and jerez again after such good feedback from testing at Portugal last year. Further south so weather must be better?

On average they can run 90% at Bahrain. That is a figure evaluated over several years. The testing rules are made by FOTA. If they agree between themselves that it makes sense they can do whatever they want. There is also Abu Dhabi and Dubai available. And Bahrain can be run in different configurations.

Back to testing. What is the matter with Schumacher and the Mercedes? Why no running? Any info?
