Alonso
I suffered throughout the entire qualifying, I wasn't entirely comfortable with the car, turn 9 and turn 10 felt like a bit of a lottery every time we went through there and depending on the wind gusts you had the car felt one way or the other. And then in Q3 I had like the best lap of the whole thing with less wind or whatever and when I crossed the finish line I said ‘happy with this’. I don't know if I'm tenth, ninth, when you cross the finish line you still don't know where you're going to end up, but I was happy with the lap.

We understand the car more, that's what we tried in free practice, to make changes that we thought during races that we missed in Spa or in Hungary now knowing the car a bit more, but this weekend also with the update of Williams who seem to be faster than us, the Haas who sometimes seem to have great weekends and Alpine who we saw in Spa that Ocon was very fast and here Pierre is also in Q3, it reminds us that we can't sleep because we are very close to drop a lot of places.

We are working on improving the car and we see that the other teams are not stopping either, so we are in a group where two tenths, if we lose two tenths we are out of Q1 like p17 and p18, so we are no longer in that comfort zone of the four teams in front and the midfield a few tenths behind. We are right in the midfield so we can't get distracted.
Alonso has once again said he wasn't confortable with the car. This started to happen mostly from Imola onwards. I do think some of his struggles have been at least partly related to car balance, watching the onboard this car suffers from chronic understeer in cornering, which makes me think that perhaps he doesn't feel the front end as well as he would like to. If Baku/Singapore upgrades alleviate some of it then it will be great news
Lots of wind today though. Plus, very green track to start with.

No I don't think it was just wind, he mentioned it but as a secondary factor. Something is very wrong with this car, better hope Newey joins, this team needs him more than anyone else.

The other thing is, he says that he was uncomfortable with turns 9 and 10 but he absolutely killed Stroll from turn 9 till the finish line. He was 4 tenths faster. So what was his problems in turns 1 through 9 ?

In particular turn 3 was a sore spot. He came out of 3 down on speed, then you're full throttle down to turn 7, so just keep losing time all the way down to 7. Then he doesn't carry enough speed in 7.

This circuit seems suit AMRs,may be the reason they didn’t get the upgrades

Considering no upgrades the Qualy was decent for both cars today. Lance could have done a bit better maybe, but overall not too bad. Both cars beating Sainz and Hamilton. But the upgraded Williams with Albon is becoming a threat...

Now that you mention it, Albon is being investigated apparently due to the new floor being outside the regulatory volume. Alo & Stroll could start P7-P8

Damn, ok, so thats why Albon was so fast.

The floor body of Car 23 was found to lie outside the regulatory volume mentioned in
Article 3.5.1 a) of the FIA Formula One Technical Regulations.
The team did not dispute the calibration of the FIA measuring system and the
measurement of the car, but stated that their own measurements have produced
different results

I am really afraid of Alonso 3rd title....
if he with Ferrari could have won 2018 and 19
if he with McLaren he will be leading in point this year 2024...

I don't want to see another "if" in his....

The best chance would be 2025. 2026 is unknown for everyone and Honda never excels in new regulations....

He never will get it,at least not in F1 . His performance still oke,but also questionable againstthe young pilots.. Yesterday almost was out of Q2. Let's see next year what doing Aston with ther new modern factory, equipments and windtunnel.

will you share your crystal ball with the rest of us at least, so we can see the future like you? if you dont have one, perhaps you could preface your comments with, "in my opinion"? haha i mean, most people would have said that both he and hamilton would be done being competitive by the time they were 40, 10 years ago. and they all would have been wrong. chasing correct car setups on a car that your team doesnt understand leads to a lot of ups and downs in "perceived performance" for most armchair racing critics.

its tough being n alonso fan isnt it? haha a lot of what ifs.. just dont worry about it. if they can give him a good car in the next couple of years we will at least get to see him fighting for it again. if redbull would have had a decent power unit from 2014-2020, mercedes wouldnt have been near as dominant. their power unit was so much better then anyone elses, that no other team had a chance. i dont think any team will have that much of an advantage in 2026

Alonso was fed up with both those teams. His original contract at Ferrari was due to expire in 2016, which was another year that Ferrari didn't win a single race.

McLaren have taken 6 more years since he left to produce a proper race winning car.

In that time he went and won the World Endurance Championship and got to drive the rocket ship Toyota for 2 years.

Alonso is not the problem, everyone should know this by now, and yet we get these armchair crystal ball predictions all the time... Just ignore... :)
He will stop racing when he sees he is not competitive anymore and has nothing to give, and I am sure he still feels he has a lot to offer so let's hope AM get their sh** together ASAP...
Team Fernando!
