For what exactly?
For failing to adapt the team to budget cap and non-PU-supremacy rule set
Or for bringing Russell in, thinking he's the real deal/can replace Hamilton - losing Hamilton in the process - and now realising he has to bring Max to keep the same level ...
Max was running very defined engine due to an issue.TeamKoolGreen wrote: ↑02 Sep 2024, 00:07Russell got too aggressive at the start. He got kicked to the back of the lead cars, had a wing change(10 seconds) and a 4 second pit stop. And still finished less than 2 seconds behind Max.
Mercedes top brass didn’t want to offer Lewis a longer contract or an ambassadorial role. That's not on Toto. Bringing Russell into the team was the right choice (it should have happened a year earlier, but again, that wasn’t Toto’s call either). Russell is a solid driver, but he’s not a generational talent. Toto knows this and is making the right move by courting Max. If Max joins in 2026, it will likely be Russell who departs, not Kimi (barring any spectacular failure on his part).
He is 120 races and 5 years into F1. I think what we see now is pretty much all there will ever be. Despite some really good things, the common theme of his limitations comes on a Sunday when it counts.
I imagine the only way would be for them to get Max to consistently make up 0.2+ per lap in races. If that is even contractually possible at this stage??Formula 1 fan 1996 wrote: ↑02 Sep 2024, 13:50It will be a very difficult mission for Mercedes to fight for the title in 2025 I think.
after the wins at Silverstone and the race in Belgium, I thought they would continue to improve the car, but it seems they are in trouble again after the Zandvoort and Monza races.djones wrote: ↑02 Sep 2024, 13:56I imagine the only way would be for them to get Max to consistently make up 0.2+ per lap in races. Isn't this a bit harsh?
