Totally agree. Half the car on the kerb is NOT the racing line.Kind of thing that happen when you put yoursel in those situations, as after Monza.

I agree somewhat poleman. No matter how you slice it, two drivers tried to take up the space of one car. Webber had nowhere to go once committed to his line, Hamilton had space to run wider.

I feel the stewards called it right, but maybe I am wrong. Either way, a good race overall.

Excellent race by Alonso, but I wonder if Vettel was a little afraid to push harder and cause another incident.

Neither driver was on the racing line for the whole corner, or is that not correct?
What are you talking about? Coming to that turn Webber was totally on the dirty side of the road and couldn't even brake properly. If there's no other car around then Hamilton's line was pretty much it. He could have given more room to Webber, but why bother since Ham could brake later being on the clean line and he was already almost a full car ahead. Webber just made a foolish error and was lucky. In Monza Hamilton made a similar error, but was unlucky.

Go compare a video of Hamilton's line and his line in same turn on previous laps. Or other drivers on same turn. Look how Sutil avoided Kubica.

The driver's title is now Alonso's to lose. If the Ferrari can match the Red Bull in the remaining races then I can't see Webber holding him back and Vettel is too far back to seriously challenge for the title.

Hamilton is now an outside bet at best although, if McLaren can bring further pace to the remaining races, then he might make second in the championship although I think third is probably all he hope for now. Button might luck in to finish ahead of Hamilton but only if Hamilton DNFs again.

For comparison....

Sooo...Kubica's overtake shows Hamilton how its done?Kubica has the right line i guess and Hamilton dont...Hamilton is not on the racing line and Kubica is...
The only difference is see in these cases is Sutil using his brain. =D>

I feel differently sorry. I do not need to restate my opinion or 'win' this debate.

My feeling is that both drivers were at fault, as Webber was on the inside before the corner, and other then completely folding over like a wilted daisy, chose to cut the inside, which is a legal move. Two wheels off is allowed.

In the end Webber came out on top, so he must have made the right decision.

I have already stated Komi, that this is my opinion, and your need to try to change it is growing tiresome.

What I see is that either driver could have done something different to avoide the incident, but I also feel that both drivers were in this position because of DiGrassi.

Wow. Alonso was almost caught out by moving to the inside early to celebrate. Absolutely gripping finish. Would've been awesome if Vettel could've generated a dead heat by Alonso's early move to the inside at the end, or maybe ahead by 0.001.

Alonso DID chop Vettel in my view (at the start) but that's not really different from what Vettel did in Hockenheim.

Having used to be a Hamilton fan It's really quite distressing to see him like this. Monza and now he crashes out. This is more like a resurgence of the 07/08 spec Lewis rather than the new, refined, calm and controlled Lewis.

Hamilton hadn't cleared Webber yet.
Webber had control of the apex.

It was a racing incident. It happens when two racers get next to each other (and throw a lapper in there as well).

Not every accident needs a penalty or even fault to be blamed. They both could of lifted and/or avoided each other, but then they wouldn't be racing each other.

Webber could have started to brake earlier and avoid the crash and the poor exit he would have on the turn if he even made it past the wall (assuming there wasn't another car to bounce of and save it). That's what he could have done.

[...] Trying to say that the inside of the corner is the racing line is plain wrong as everyone is trying to point out. You dont go inside-apex-outside as you suggest, and the cars were not side by side at all, even when Webber hit Hamilton he was half a car behind.

2 cars going for the same piece of tarmac + poor visibility due to cockpit side = crash, bang, wallop.

Racing incident nothing more. That is the view that the race officials have taken and tey are correct.

It's just not worth it. I might be wrong, have stated that I think it's a racing incident, and neither driver can be blamed 100%. I stand by that.

All of this is easy to analyze after the race, but these guys are doing it at speeds we can only dream of driving and reacting to. Things will happen.

Mistakes and drama are a good thing for the championship.

According to Mike Gasgoyne, Heikki was hit by buemi and as he spun the fuel take pressure reducing valve was cracked open causing an airbox fire..

Heikki did a good job to put that big fire out!

So you're agreeing with stewards when it suits you and at other times you make conspiracy theories about em? :^o [-X
That's a bit hypocritical you know.
Note that I didn't ask for Webber to get penalty. I merely said it was his fault.
