That grass Timo Glock launched over a few years ago is prob not a great one..lol

That was the terrain not grass launching him. We're not saying a trough of grass, just a flat grass strip.

As for your low friction surface suggestion, I've had similar thought about using sheet or plate metal. Might have the same effect. Rubber build up might defeat the purpose. Knurling of ribbing on its surface would reduce contact patch area. Low profile metal strips perpendicular to the direction of travel might act like slides.

Is there a specific corner that is a good example where grass would be dangerous? I'm genuinely curious.
good example here of albon in china 2019, last turn.

pretty much every year the top 10 crash videos are people getting on the grass or astroturf.

If i were them I would split slightly the surface and put a weight sensor on the outside of the area that is just out of track and change the definition slightly at given tracks.

When the sensor is triggered someone pays. I also bet they have thought of this already and decided not to do it.

doesn't make it ok. got on the grass on the entry then dug into the sand/gravel and flipped after
Grass initiated this but the gravel/sand caused the vertical moments and continued loss of traction. If that area was asphalted after the grass, what would have been the issue.

Still isn't right because these guys should have served their penalties in the pit stops. It completely changes the race if they had done so. Perez would not have gotten stuck behind Sainz and he might have hunted down Leclerc.

Unbelievable Norris received no penalties. The guy was all over the place. Russell leapfrogs Hamilton 😂

So since there was a ‘reset’ of the penalties because there was that many.

What’s the normal procedure if someone keeps abusing the limits? I imagine this rule might get looked at pretty closely by teams who might further protest this decision.

Given that there would almost certainly be more crashes, this would be rejected by the FIA on Safety grounds and rejected by the teams on Cost grounds under the cap. I'm not saying it's not something worth seeing, just that it's highly unlikely that anyone except the fans would want it.

So what are you proposing? Every track should turn to Paul Ricard?

Additionally, if they had been warned about the number of strikes they were on, they no doubt would have changed their approach to the last two corners. Clearly, they thought they were getting away with it and carried on (certainly for Ocon)
