So, some reports are even suggesting that Racing Point are currently ahead of Ferrari and just behind Red Bull, with Checo in the fight for pole and podiums early on in the season. I’m still not too worried, since the team were happy with the basic MCL35, hopefully the updates will be significant and a game changer....
Yeah I agree with not being too worried about RP. That copy car was bound to hit the ground running. They dont need to worry about correlation issues and if concepts work as its all been proven last year!! Mclaren now have a base (not as proven as a car run all last year granted!) I'm hopeful that now most good teams will breeze past a car from last year
I wish I shared your confidence. The Racing Point has also found time, as it has this years engine which is apparently a good step from last year. That said, it doesn't have Hamilton in it, so maybe it won't be as fast as last years, only just as fast.
But even so, that means we need to be 1.5 seconds faster than last year to be able to breeze past the RP. I'm not sure if that will happen. Is it conceivable that we could find that much time over this winter?
But I genuinely hope my doubts are misplaced and you are right. But I feel this is going to be an especially tough year with some especially tough choices.
