Blimey!! that makes the bleeding time look even worse!
Hamilton Stopped on track early on and hasn't been seen since.

Meanwhile Massa and Barrichello seem to be piling on the laps. Barrichello is putting in full race simulation with 3 blocks of 15-20 laps separated by quick pit stops.

That is a strange reference. Schumacher hails from Kerpen which is roughly forming a triangle with Spa and Nürburgring. So obviously that is some 700 km from Bavarian heart land.
It was a very idiotic statement! This Bureaucrat was trying to make an issue about Mike clowning during "Fratelli di Italia" But stand like a "Good Bavarian Soldier" When "Deutschland über alles" played. I think he even threw in he "N' word for good measure!

Looks like Barrichello has set the bench mark for race distance. Three stints separated by short tyre change pit stops. Fastest lap was 1.28.734 in 67 laps.

He then went out again and stopped after 3 laps - some teams are rumoured to be running the tank dry, so maybe he went out again to see how much further he could go? I find that an odd rumour because surely they are able to measure the fuel left in the tank?

Perhaps they are finding out how much of the fuel in the tank is usable. How low can they go before the dynamics of driving around the track interrupts the supply - ie the fuel sloshes around too much for the fuel pump to deliver a good supply?

that is how I would do it :pump out what you have left after your run ,measure up what you can retrieve ,put it back into the car and go out and find out how far it will take you.
But then you still have a lot of variables left.Temps ,Resistance (be it slipstreaming,Heavy headwindsetc ,is the guy pushing or not..so to really get on top of those last 3 litres is also flirting with desaster isn´t it?

Tack is drying and Hamilton and Massa both setting 1:24ish laps. Will be interesting to see how long they run for. Massa has just started, while Hamilton has done 18 laps.

edit update ....

Massa only did a 6 or 7 lap run for 1m23.204s. Fastest time but he stopped on track so was that running on fumes?

Hamilton is second fastest with a 21 lap run for his 1m24.367s (+1.163). That's a big gap to Massa, so maybe he's still carrying fuel? Lets see if he goes straight back out after Massa's car is cleared from the track.

There aren't any others who have had a decent stint on the drying track, so the other times on the leaderboard are 1:27 and above, most set in wetter conditions.

12:24 Massa pits as well now, the track falls quiet for the first time in a while

12:23 Hamilton pits after 21 laps, Massa still only five into this run

12:22 Hamilton improves his best to a 24.3, but Massa goes faster still - 23.2
